How Does HP Tuners Pick What Vehicles to Support?
Published on: May 10, 2022Categories: Product Education
HP Tuners offers tuning and diagnostic support for thousands of vehicles from nearly every vehicle manufacturer around the world. This includes popular US manufacturers like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge, as well as Asian, Korean, and European manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan, Seat, Porsche, and Volkswagen. Still, we haven’t released support for every single year, make, and model of vehicle from every manufacturer on the roads today—why not?
This is a common question our team here at HP Tuners receives from eager customers, like you, who want to tune their vehicle with our hardware and software. We also get questions like “How do you support [insert unpopular vehicle that few people want to modify] but not my [insert relatively popular vehicle]?!” and “Why doesn’t HP Tuners support my vehicle?”. These are both valid questions. So, here are your answers.
Our process of adding tuning support for vehicles is determined by two main factors, including vehicle popularity and vehicle control module accessibility.
Sometimes, a popular vehicle model that we support will share the same control module with a less popular model from the same manufacturer. In this case, if we support one vehicle with that ECM/PCM, we also support other vehicles with that same ECM/PCM.
For example, we offer tuning/diagnostic support for the 99-02 Chevy Venture with the 3.4L V6—very exciting, we know. The reason we support this vehicle is because it shares the same ECM with the Pontiac Grand Prix and Grand Am, the Impala, and several other V6 models, including the Pontiac Firebird which the company was founded on.
For all the Hellcat fans out there, the Pacifica/Grand Caravan shares the same PCM type as our supported Hellcat, which means we support both of those vehicles.
If you’re someone who has a vehicle that’s not currently supported by HP Tuners, our engineering team is constantly working on adding new vehicle support for new and older vehicles, including powersports, so stay tuned.
And while we don’t offer tuning support for every vehicle yet, if you’re equipped with one of our interface devices, you can still utilize standalone data logging and view diagnostic data on your OBDII vehicle without purchasing credits and licensing your vehicle. This means that your vehicle does not have to be on our supported vehicle list for you to still use our MPVI3 device.
Additionally, our interfaces are multi-vehicle. This means you can tune and/or run diagnostics on all the toys in your garage with a single MPVI3 interface—from your track car to your mini-van, your side-by-side, and your tow rig! Our tools work for nearly every modern vehicle with an OBDII port and even powersports vehicles with our OBDII adapter cables. This is an invaluable benefit for enthusiasts and pro tuners of any kind.
Stay tuned for upcoming vehicle support releases on our social media and email. HP Tuners is dedicated to providing enthusiasts and tuners, like you, with the industry’s most cutting-edge tuning and diagnostic solutions and comprehensive vehicle support.
