Embedded Android Developer

Job Description

HP Tuners is currently seeking a full-time Embedded Android Developer to join our team either remotely or at our office in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. At HP Tuners, we develop hardware and software products to suite the aftermarket needs of automotive enthusiasts.

As an Embedded Android Developer for HP Tuners, you will be working with an experienced cross-disciplinary team that builds cutting edge automotive products from prototype all the way to production. You will be responsible for bringing up Android Systems on custom hardware, as well as maintaining existing products. You will be writing kernel-level drivers, as well high-level Android proof of concept applications.

This position reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Android Open Source Project (AOSP) bring-up on custom hardware
  • Writing and integrating low level Kernel drivers
  • Writing high-level proof of concept Android applications
  • Assisting hardware engineers in part selection for new hardware products
  • Manage project requirements and deadlines.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with the Android Open Source Project
  • Experience writing custom kernel drivers for Android
  • Experience bringing up and porting Android on custom hwardware platforms
  • Mobile application development experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with the hardware development process. Able to read and understand hardware schematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus
  • Knowledge of automotive OBD-II communication protocols is a plus
  • Friendly, flexible, and a team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while meeting required deadlines

Vehicle Engineer, Entry Level

Job Description

HP Tuners LLC is a global leader in the automotive aftermarket, developing software and hardware for vehicle calibration. We are growing rapidly and are looking to add Vehicle Engineer to our team.

A Vehicle Engineer A vehicle engineer is responsible for maintaining, updating, and adding vehicle support and features to VCM Suite.

This position reports to the Director of Vehicle Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining/updating in house software.
  • Reverse engineering various automotive binary files.
  • Mapping vehicle tune parameters.
  • Using automotive programming tools and software.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Engine and transmission operation.
  • Automotive Programming Tools or Software.
  • Automotive communications protocols.
  • Familiar with Assembly languages (x86, PPC, Tri-core).
  • Familiar with programming languages: C#, C++, Python.
  • IDA Pro, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server.

Senior Embedded Software Architect

Job Description

HP Tuners is currently seeking a full-time Senior Embedded Software Architect to join our team in Buffalo Grove, IL. At HP Tuners, we develop hardware and software products to suite the aftermarket needs of automotive enthusiasts.

As a Senior Embedded Software Architect for HP Tuners, you will be working with an experienced cross-disciplinary team that builds cutting edge automotive products from prototype all the way to production. You will be responsible for the firmware architecture for existing embedded devices, as well as helping develop new products. You will be providing technical leadership to a team of firmware developers, as well as working with project stakeholders in order to define requirements and timelines.

This position reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop the firmware architecture for new, as well as existing embedded products.
  • Provide technical leadership to the firmware development team
  • Overlook the firmware development process
  • Manage project requirements and deadlines. Distribute tasks to firmware development team members.
  • Write Embedded C++ firmware using the latest Object-Oriented Programming features.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of embedded architecture experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in embedded C++ firmware development
  • Familiar with the latest C++ OOP standards
  • Experience with embedded Real Time Operating Systems
  • Familiarity with the hardware development process. Able to read and understand hardware schematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus

Senior Hardware Engineer 

Job Description

HP Tuners is currently seeking a full-time Senior Hardware Engineer to join our team in Buffalo Grove, IL. At HP Tuners, we develop hardware products to suite the aftermarket needs of automotive enthusiasts.

You will play a key role in crafting and developing the hardware for these systems and should be confident in both rapid prototyping as well as production grade hardware development. To be successful, you must have strong PCB Design skills and should also be detail oriented, accurate in your work and, be able to work autonomously.

This position reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prototype and test new hardware designs
  • Perform schematic entry and layout using Altium Designer
  • Prepare PCB projects for manufacturing
  • Debug and validate electronic circuits
  • Work with suppliers to source components and finished assemblies
  • Manage project requirements and deadlines

Skills and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience and a proven track record in hardware development
  • 5+ years of PCB design experience using ECAD tools (Altium Designer or similar)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is preferred
  • Extensive circuit prototyping experience
  • Circuit testing and debugging skills
  • Circuit simulation experience is a plus
