Director of Powertrain Engineering

Job Description

HP Tuners LLC is a global leader in the automotive aftermarket, developing software and hardware for vehicle calibration. HP Tuners is currently seeking a full-time Director of Powertrain Engineering to join our team in Buffalo Grove, IL.

The role is responsible for demonstrating engineering excellence in the Powertrain fields, to possess the ability to lead and motivate/stimulate a strong team and to strive for perfection.

The Head of Powertrain Engineering will focus and be responsible for research, technical leadership, and delivery of advanced propulsion systems. This role will focus on technology development along along with leading a passionate and outstanding team of engineers and prototype technicians. This vigorous role will execute current and future Powertrain Hardware devices.

This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, Powertrain Hardware development and activities for all systems, batteries, -packs, ESS, e-motors, inverters, power electronics, transmissions, and related hardware
  • Manage, mentor, and build teams, talent development, recruiting and retention
  • Collaborate with other groups to ensure safety, compliance, cost, efficiency, etc.
  • Develop cutting edge technology, targeting holistic efficiency and performance with a view on PT as a whole and interfacing systems
  • Controls development
  • Develop Electric and hybrid vehicle architecture
  • Assist in defining controls architecture, platform, and functionality
  • Create control algorithms for specific systems in a Simulink environment
  • Develop and test controls performance through modeling, bench, and vehicle testing
  • Maintain and manage system simulation and modeling
  • Provide system hardware specification
  • Support design, selection, and integration of electronic components
  • Identify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements
  • Communicate wiring and connector requirements to support harness builds

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Proven, senior level experience in engineering, design, and testing of advanced powertrain systems for production, understanding their interfaces and integration into the vehicle. Ability to provide direction and resolution to technical issues
  • Proven track record of excellent management capacity leading and developing large, diverse groups of engineers and scientists in a fast-paced environment
  • At least 10 years’ experience in Automotive Powertrain Hardware Development
  • A broad industry network and proven ability to interface at a senior / board level with customers and suppliers
  • At least 2 years of prior experience in a similar role is required
  • At least 1 year of experience working with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow

HR Generalist

Job Description

HP Tuners is seeking a proactive and self-motivated experienced HR Generalist. In this position you will provide a broad range of HR support for business objectives, strategic goals, and HR related initiatives. This role is a true generalist role which carries responsibility for recruitment & talent management, compensation, payroll, benefits, employee relations, and other special projects as assigned. To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to be agile, responsive, work under tight deadlines.

This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of the recruiting process including posting job openings, reviewing applicant qualifications, coordinating the interview process, facilitating the candidate selection discussion and presenting offer to candidate.
  • Support recruiting efforts at on-site and off-site recruitment events including job fairs, college recruiting fairs, etc.
  • Actively Assists in payroll process
  • Interpret and provide basic policy and procedure explanation to both employees and management.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for resolution of issues / questions related to Human Resources, providing answers and/or seeking input from senior-level HR staff members to obtain necessary information.
  • Provide response to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, conflict in the workplace, etc. involving senior-level HR/managers as necessary.
  • Communicate with employees in resolving basic conflicts or employee relations issues, and act as a mediator in facilitating resolution.
  • Provide feedback and assistance with performance appraisal process for employees, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Participate in the development/review of job descriptions.
  • Facilitate and/or provide training (may include onboarding activities, training on HR topics, etc.) to employees.
  • Participate in regular meetings with management team members to ensure alignment and awareness of developments that may impact employees.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of human resources policies in order to satisfy legal requirements.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and seminars, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional organizations.
  • Participate in and support HR departmental initiatives, including wellness programs, planning company events, employee recognition programs, employee activities, etc.
  • Assist in administration of compensation programs, including explaining market data and merit information to employees, etc.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years’ Human Resources related experience (i.e., HR Generalist, Recruiting, HRIS, Compensation, Payroll, etc.)
  • Previous experience with ADP, Paylocity or similar HRIS is preferred.
  • Ability to influence at varying levels across the organization
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, consistently take the initiative to get things done, do things before being asked by others or forced to by events.
  • Ability to artfully convey even subtle or complex messages clearly, as appropriate for the topic and audience.

Project Manager

Job Description

HP Tuners LLC is a global leader in the automotive aftermarket, developing software and hardware for vehicle calibration. We are growing rapidly and are looking to add a Project Manager to our team to work to support our growing products.

The Project Manager will use a hybrid mix of waterfall and agile methodologies to manage multiple cross functional projects to support business objectives. Most projects will be technology based and the PM will oversee the entire lifecycle, from conception through development, manufacturing, testing, and product release.

This position will be responsible for creating and managing work schedules, reporting on project progress, oversee testing, liaising with vendors on standard and custom material procurements, and working with all departments to ensure products are released satisfactorily.

Additionally, some non-product focused projects will be the responsibility of the project manager, spanning the entire range of business needs.

The ideal candidate will have a willingness to get into the mix of a project and get their hands dirty to complete objectives, this is not a sit back and manage from afar position!

This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategically plan and create project schedules/templates to ensure all projects are executed on-time and within budget
  • Create and maintain project documents
  • Lead scheduled and ad-hoc project meetings, setting agendas and documenting important notes
  • Troubleshoot project issues by identifying the root cause and implementing corrective actions
  • Prioritize and execute project tasks to provide smooth flow of progress throughout the project
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope and advise on effects to timeline and budget
  • Work with vendors on project procurements alongside project SMEs
  • Manage project quality and oversee testing activities
  • Collect and analyze user feedback for bug fix and continuous improvement actions
  • Communicate project statuses throughout the organization as required

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; high School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management focusing on technology, operations, and software applications is required.
  • PMP Certification desired but not required
  • Project management experience should include managing multiple technology related projects simultaneously from cradle to grave
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite, including MS Project and Visio.
  • Excellent understanding of both waterfall and agile project methodologies and associated tools
  • Previous experience running projects and deliverables through pre-release testing and validation
  • ERP implementation and working knowledge of ERP systems helpful
  • Previous experience and demonstrated competency in Quality Management Systems, preferably ISO 9001
  • Strong technical aptitude is helpful (or desire and ability to learn!). We don’t need you to be an engineer, but it would be beneficial if you understood basic electronics theory, basic coding elements, and good manufacturing processes
  • Interest in automotive technology not required but wouldn’t hurt!

Senior Embedded Software Architect

Job Description

HP Tuners is currently seeking a full-time Senior Embedded Software Architect to join our team in Buffalo Grove, IL. At HP Tuners, we develop hardware and software products to suite the aftermarket needs of automotive enthusiasts.

As a Senior Embedded Software Architect for HP Tuners, you will be working with an experienced cross-disciplinary team that builds cutting edge automotive products from prototype all the way to production. You will be responsible for the firmware architecture for existing embedded devices, as well as helping develop new products. You will be providing technical leadership to a team of firmware developers, as well as working with project stakeholders in order to define requirements and timelines.

This position reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop the firmware architecture for new, as well as existing embedded products.
  • Provide technical leadership to the firmware development team
  • Overlook the firmware development process
  • Manage project requirements and deadlines. Distribute tasks to firmware development team members.
  • Write Embedded C++ firmware using the latest Object-Oriented Programming features.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of embedded architecture experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in embedded C++ firmware development
  • Familiar with the latest C++ OOP standards
  • Experience with embedded Real Time Operating Systems
  • Familiarity with the hardware development process. Able to read and understand hardware schematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus
  • Knowledge about automotive OBD-II communication protocols is a plus
  • Experience developing software for Embedded Android systems is a plus.

Vehicle Engineer, Entry Level

A Vehicle Engineer A vehicle engineer is responsible for maintaining, updating, and adding vehicle support and features to VCM Suite.

This position reports to the Director of Vehicle Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining/updating in house software.
  • Reverse engineering various automotive binary files.
  • Mapping vehicle tune parameters.
  • Using automotive programming tools and software.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Engine and transmission operation.
  • Automotive Programming Tools or Software.
  • Automotive communications protocols.
  • Familiar with Assembly languages (x86, PPC, Tri-core).
  • Familiar with programming languages: C#, C++, Python.
  • IDA Pro, Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server.
