MPVI1 End-of-Life: Frequently Asked Questions
Published on: February 3, 2026Categories: News and Updates, Press Releases
For more than 20 years, the original MPVI1 interface has been part of the HP Tuners journey, supporting enthusiasts, professionals, and businesses as automotive technology evolved. As part of our continued focus on modern vehicles and current-generation tools, HP Tuners will officially end support for the original MPVI1 and MPVI1 Pro interfaces on January 1, 2027.
This article is intended to clearly explain what that change means, what is not changing, and how existing MPVI1 users are affected. Most importantly, this transition does not take away access to vehicles you have already licensed or invalidate prior purchases.

1. Will my original MPVI1 or MPVI1 Pro stop working entirely in 2027?
No. The original MPVI1 and MPVI1 Pro interfaces will continue to function after January 1, 2027 with vehicles you have already licensed with compatible versions of the software.
Your device will not be disabled or rendered unusable. However, once support ends, MPVI1 devices will no longer receive new software updates, new features, or technical support from HP Tuners.
2. Does this change affect MPVI2, MPVI3, or MPVI4?
No. This change applies only to the original MPVI1 and MPVI1 Pro interfaces.
MPVI2, MPVI3, and MPVI4 are not affected and will continue to be supported according to their respective product lifecycles.
3. Will HP Tuners continue to offer technical support for MPVI1 after 2026?
No. After December 31, 2026, HP Tuners will no longer provide technical support, software development, or new features for the original MPVI1 and MPVI1 Pro devices.
Ending support allows our teams to focus on current and future vehicle platforms, software development, and new technology.
4. Can I still tune vehicles I already have licensed?
Yes. Any vehicles you have already licensed—whether through single-vehicle licenses or unlimited licenses—will remain fully usable.
Nothing is being removed, revoked, or taken away from existing licenses. You will continue to have access to the vehicles you have already paid to license using compatible versions of the software.
5. Will VCM Suite still function with my original MPVI1?
Yes. VCM Suite will continue to function with the original MPVI1 when using supported versions of the software.
After support ends, MPVI1 devices will not work with future VCM Suite updates or betas released beyond that point. Users who wish to continue using MPVI1 will need to remain on compatible software versions to ensure continued functionality.
6. Will I still be able to buy MPVI1 credits after 2026?
No. Sales of MPVI1-specific credits will end after December 31, 2026.
This aligns with the planned end of support for the original MPVI1 interface and allows HP Tuners to focus development, software, and support resources on current and future platforms.
7. If I buy credits before the end of 2026, can I still use them in 2027 and beyond?
Yes. Any credits purchased before the end of 2026 will remain usable after January 1, 2027.
Credits do not expire. However, to use those credits, you will need to remain on a compatible version of the software that continues to support the original MPVI1 interface.
8. What happens to unlimited licenses?
Unlimited licenses will remain valid and fully usable.
If you already have an unlimited license tied to an MPVI1 or MPVI1 Pro device, that license is not revoked, downgraded, or removed as part of this transition. Unlimited licenses retain their value and functionality under the same conditions as existing single-vehicle licenses.
Optional: Upgrades and Interface Transfers
The following questions are provided for customers who are considering moving to a newer HP Tuners interface. An upgrade is not required to continue using vehicles you already have licensed on an original MPVI1 device.
9. Do I have to upgrade my MPVI1 interface?
No. You are not required to upgrade your interface to continue using existing licenses.
If you choose to remain on the original MPVI1 or MPVI1 Pro, you may continue to tune and diagnose vehicles you already have licensed using compatible software versions. However, please know you will not have the opportunity to upgrade this device after January 1st, 2027. Starting on this date, MPVI1 devices will no longer be accepted for upgrades.
10. If I upgrade to a newer interface, will my credits and licenses transfer?
Yes. If you choose to upgrade to a newer HP Tuners interface, all existing credits and licenses—including unlimited licenses—will transfer as part of the upgrade process.
This ensures that the value of your existing investment is retained if you decide to move to newer hardware.
11. Can my existing credits convert to universal credits?
Yes. When upgrading through the HP Tuners interface upgrade program, eligible brand-specific credits (such as Dodge, GM, or Ford credits) can convert to universal credits on the new interface.
This conversion occurs as part of the upgrade process and allows those credits to be used across supported platforms.
12. How do I upgrade my MPVI1 device to MPVI4?
To upgrade your MPVI1 device, please visit this product page. You will be required to ship us your MPVI1 device. We will transfer all credits and licenses to the new MPVI4 device. This includes unlimited licenses. Any MPVI1 Credits you have on your MPVI1 device will automatically be transferred to your MPVI4 as Universal Credits. No licenses or credits will be lost.
Remember, if you choose to upgrade your MPVI1 device, you must do so before January 1st, 2027. After this date, MPVI1 devices will NOT be accepted for upgrades.
The original MPVI1 interface represents an important chapter in HP Tuners’ history and in the growth of the tuning community over the past two decades. We recognize the loyalty of customers who have been with us from the beginning and appreciate the role MPVI1 played in building that foundation.
This end-of-life transition is designed to be gradual, transparent, and respectful of existing investments. Vehicles you have already licensed remain accessible, credits retain their value, and there is no requirement to upgrade your interface.
Thank you for your continued support and for being part of the HP Tuners journey.
