This is for mpvi3 only. Another way to force the version 5 software and make the now 2 year old mpvi2+ obsolete.

Only "75 select shops" will be allowed to use this.......

Is this a slow roll out or are they only partnering with shops that promise to not violate the EPA? Or maybe just the ones that buy a lot of credits?

you will need to invest, either buying 25K in MPVI3 devices or RTD to become a "reseller" dealer to enter and be part of the selected shops

While I do not know the exact specifics of the Global B architecture and it's comm protocols, it does make sense that a new MPVI was probably necessary......as the original GM/Bosch MDI will not work on Global B either, the MDI 2 is necessary for comms with Global B vehicles. Considering what THEY cost, I'd be a little bit angrier if I was a tech who made an investment on the original tool

It's just part of the biz. I owned a Tech1 in the 90s. Then a Tech2. Then an MDI and now the MDI2. They're all pricey for their time period but if you want to stay current it's what ya gotta do.

Kind of off-topic, but as a tech what is your take on the lack of new MDI2 availability outside of dealer channels? Is it really the post-COVID material shortage they pin it on, or is it something more sinister....like *insert OEM here* (not just GM) doesn't really want those tools in the hands of the "unwashed masses"?

    Curious about this too.

@HPTUNERS is that just an initial rollout to get things started or is the plan going forward to only let the big name shops tune these?

I don't know, I can only assume, but I'd think it's the same ol' same. OEs want to keep control of as much as they can. I've always had a GM dealer hook up so that's kept me very much "in the loop".

I hope you bought a quality aftermarket flash tool and not a MDI2 Chinesium knock off. I'm not sure even a good aftermarket tool is going to do all the different relearns that will be involved.

I ordered the mdi2 straight from bosch. Think it was around 850 shipped. Took probably 8 weeks to arrive.
