Belkin (and Taurus) is one of those *stay away from* brands that HPTuners seem to mention there are issues with.

To Hard lock Windows XP your creating a good hardware failure, make sure you havnt set the serial adapter to the same com number/irq as something else in the system, there are some setup guides for what settings you need if you do a search.

How do you have it configured ?

The bluescreen or reset is a windows memory error.

I have found that changing the mode to compatible mode instead of bulk, and lowering the tx,rx buffers helps those units a lot. Check the configuration software that comes with that unit for help on these settings.

Still, I prefer to use other brand names (like Keyspan).

Thanks, I'll try that. If that doesn't work I'll get the Keyspan.

    Part # F5U109

today I decided to look for a new driver that was xp logo tested...
and and i found one... I uninstalled the original...

and down loaded F5U409_XP.EXE from the belkin website...

    http://web.belkin.com/support/downlo...701&lang=1

then before anything I adjusted these settings in the device manager.

    Bits per Second : 115200
    Data Bits : 8
    Parity : None
    Stop Bits: 1
    Flow Control : None

    Advanced...
Use compatible buffers : check the box
    Recieve Buffer : 8
    Transmit Buffer : 16

now it works like a charm...

I just bought a POS off ebay, the cable / dongle was about $10 shipped, it would not work at all with hptuner or tunercat. I took it to work and put a data line monitor on it, found TX and RX data shorted. Sent it back and ordered a keyspan from thenerds.net for $35.46 shipped.

Also tested a radio shack, it worked Ok with hptuner but blue screen
crashed XP when I tried tunercat.
