Unable to locate an available COM Port.
Make sure other programs are not currently using the COM port that the interface is plugged into.
- Verify that you have no other software program running that uses the COM ports (Palm Pilot, UPS, Etc)
- Verify your COM port settings under Windows Device Manager/ Ports (COM & LPT).
The interface was not found or is not responding.
Verify it is connected properly and that the vehicles diagnostic port has power.
No vehicle power detected.
Verify cable is connected and key is in the RUN position.
- Verify cable is firmly connected to the vehicle and laptop.
- Verify that your OBD-II port has power (check fuse panel).
- Verify the key is in the ignition and in the ON position.
- Wait 10 seconds and try again.
Unable to locate VCM.
Verify cable is connected and key is in the RUN position.
- Verify the key is in the ignition and in the ON position.
- Wait 10 seconds and try again.
- If you receive this error in VCM Editor, make sure VCM Scanner is in the disconnected state.
Invalid Cable ID.
You do not have license support for this interface.
- Please use the software that was sent with this cable.
- The software and cable are matched to each other.
USB to Serial Adapters.
- Use only quality USB adapters such as the SocketCom PCMCIA card adapter or Keyspan USB-Serial adapter (part # USA-19HS).
- Use of poor quality adapters will result in poor performance, data corruption or Windows "Blue Screen".

Unable to validate VCM.
- The software is unable to determine the VCM type for the vehicle you are connected to.
- Wait 10 seconds and try again.
- If the problem persists, please send a VCM Suite Info log to customer support (support@hptuners.com).
Unlicensed Vehicle.
- You are trying to access a vehicle type that is not supported with your software.
- If you feel you have reached this message in error, please contact customer support (support@hptuners.com).
VCM Read Failed
- There was an error during the read process.
- NOTE: If you are receiving errors during the read process, make sure you use the Non-Active test write feature when trying to write to the VCM. Chances are if you are having troubles reading the VCM, you will have troubles writing to it as well.
- If you do receive this error frequently, please contact customer support (support@hptuners.com).
Read failed due to constant checksum errors
- Does your computer meet our minimum requirements?
- Do you have a lot of background processes running like antivirus?
- If you are using a USB to Serial converter, is it of quality? (Serial interfaces only)
- Does your comp port have FIFO buffers disabled? (Serial interfaces only)
- In Windows Settings, set your COM port to 115200 bits per second and verify you have FIFO buffers enabled. (Serial interfaces only)
- Make sure you remove all other inline tuning modules.
- Try pulling the radio, radio amp and other optional components that may interfere with VCM communications.
- Try low speed mode if available.
Flash checksum validation failed.
- Try reading the VCM again.
- If the problem persists, please send the saved file to customer support (support@hptuners.com).
- Note: You will not be able to modify files that failed the checksum validation.
VCM Write Failed
- An error during the write process has occurred.
- DO NOT pull your VCM's fuse in attempt to correct the problem.
- Restart the software and try to write the VCM again. If the problem persists please contact customer support (support@hptuners.com).
File OS ID does not match VCM OS ID.
Please load a file that is compatible with this VCM.
- You are trying to write a VCM flash calibration that does not match the current VCM's flash calibration OS ID.
File hardware does not match VCM hardware.
Verify that the loaded file is compatible with this VCM.
- You are trying to write an entire VCM flash file that is not made for the VCM hardware you are using.
Security Codes Denied.
- Required Delay not Expired - The required time after key-on before read/write has not been exceeded. The software will auto-restart the process for you 1 time. To prevent this in the future please wait 15 seconds after key-on before you try and read or write the VCM.
- Invalid Authorization Code - The VCM you are trying to access has been locked. If you are using VCM Suite Pro and locked the file you will receive this message unless you have changed the default behavior in the preferences menu. VCM Flash will automatically retry using the TunerLock system. If you feel you have received this message in error, please send a log using VCM Suite Info to customer support (support@hptuners.com).
Error 1C0000.
- This error often occurs in late model pcm's when performing a write calibration only. In these cases a write entire is necessary to reprogram the vehicle.
Unknown Error 85.
- This error often occurs in late model pcm's when performing a write calibration only. In these cases a write entire is necessary to reprogram the vehicle.
VCM read failed at loc: 4000 or 6000 error: checksum
- PCM was previously tuned by other tuning software and has caused a checksum error. PCM should be flashed back to stock using a Tech 2.
Request High Speed Mode (All Nodes) Timed Out
- Make sure when trying to read the pcm the vehicle is not running but the key is in the forward most position.
Tables in Editor Cut Off
- In Windows Right click your Desktop>properties>settings>advanced and set the DPI to Normal.

Numbers in VCM Editor reset after being entered
- In Windows Open Start-Control panel-Regional & language options and ensure it is set to English

Drivers Did Not Install Properly
Uninstall procedure:
- Plug the MPVI in and go to the Windows Device manager
- Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section
- Right click on HP Tuners MPVI Channel A and select uninstall
- Repeat for channel B
- Disconnect the MPVI from the PC
- Open the "Add or Remove Programs" utility located in "Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs"
- Click the "Change/Remove" button. This will run the FTDI uninstaller program. Click "Continue" to run the uninstaller
- If "HP Tuners USB Drivers" is there, uninstall that as well via the previous step
- When the uninstaller has finished removing the device from the system, the caption on the "Cancel" button will change to "Finish". Click "Finish" to complete the process.
New Install Procedure:
- Unzip the USB driver files (if you downloaded them) which can be found here
- Plug the MPVI back in
- This time when Windows finds a new device, manually select the drivers in the unzipped folder or CD.
- Repeat step 3 for channel B
The USB device manager MUST report "HP Tuners MPVI Channel A" and "HP Tuners MPVI Channel B" and "HP Tuners MPVI USB Drivers" should be in your Add/Remove Programs. If not the drivers have not loaded properly.
Favorites Window Freezes
- Install NET Framework Service Pack 1 Available HERE

- Try using a new OBD 2 cable if available

- Try utilizing a different USB Port if available
- Try utilizing a different PC's USB Port if available
- Try using a new High Quality USB cable if available
- If none of the above are available or your still not getting power contact (support@hptuners.com)
MPVI Plugged into PC usb port or OBD 2 Port and Both Power & Error Lights illuminate
- This means your Firmware update did not complete and you must follow the steps HERE
- If you cannot get it to update make sure your running the current public version found on your Customer Login Page
- Try using a different PC to update the firmware if available
