I've been dealing with this for a while now. Scanner stops scanning after 10-15 minutes. It used to be after 20-30 minutes. I'm using a Dell Latitude 810 with a serial port and the serial cable provided when I purchased the HP Tuner program.

is this one of the original EIO cables? if so did you return it when they had the recall about 2 years ago?

I sent the interface box in for the EIO recall. I never received any info on a cable recall.

Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, a gazillion places online for the serial cable.
