    Newb with a lean Corvette

afr around town.hpl2014 corvette stock tune.hpt

    Good evening all,

I am completely new to HP tuners and tuning altogether. I have a 2014 c7 corvette (E92) I have not made any changes to the tune but I did notice I am running real lean while just driving around town.

Mods are MSD ported intake manifold, NX plate kit and Lingenfelter time retard box. The car has never been tuned. In the log I am not spraying the car, this is my 1st log with a wb senor which is clamped to the tailpipe.
    1. Is the MSD intake manifold causing it to run/idle lean?
-Will changing the manifold Volume fix this, if so how do I get the correct number to input?
    2. There is some slight KR here and there should I be concerned?
    3. what do I need to change to fix this?

    any help would be appreciated.

I am getting a cam, headers and CAI over the winter, that's the only reason I have not paid to have the car tuned.

Define running lean around town? Are you looking at your Wideband to determine this? If so, what is it saying? Have you data logged the car?

yes, I just realized for some reason you can't see it on the graph, but it is visible on the left under channels.
its labeled WB EQ Ratio 1

I don't see anything wrong. You are commanding a very rich Lambda at full throttle which if it isn't tuned that would explain it. Also, when you go way lean I see DFCO being active, which cuts the fuel, which it is supposed to do. This would explain why you see the Lambda go to a high number like 2.00. Then cruising you should be commanding 1.00 Lambda or very close to it which you are. The Spark retard you are seeing is likely due to too rich fuel and higher intake temps. But the value is very low so its not a concern. This is typical on a stock tune for these cars. I wouldn't worry about KR at WOT on the stock tune unless you are seeing 2-3 degrees or more on all your WOT pulls. In your log it does not happen on every pull so it's definitely just environmental. Its behaving normally from what I can tell.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have very little to no experience with what you're getting into?

Yes i am new to it all. I really have no intentions on making any changes unless advised too. I am really more interested in understanding how it all works and just the engineering behind the car. Also since I have been spraying the car blindly so I figured it would be smart to buy hptuners and log a pull to see what is really happening. I am playing around with the trans settings as it was very lazy and often times would bounce off the limiter on nitrous. If you wouldn?t mind can you take a look at my nitrous pull. It seems kind of scary due to the knock retard. I have ran 3 bottles thru this car and this is the 1st time I logged anything. I did not have a WB during the pull. I will post it once I get to my computer.

A wideband in the tailpipe will only be even remotely close at wot. Not enough velocity over the sensor otherwise so you need to be looking at trims when talking about "around town/part throttle driving with a tailpipe wb.

How much are you retarding the timing when you spray N20? What device are you using to pull the timing?

It's a wet kit, I am spraying 150 shot and using a Lingenfelter LNC-2014 to pull 6 degree timing

at the 5:09 mark is where I do a 50-150 pull spraying and end up with 3-4 KR.

I assume the 6 degrees the LNC is pulling is not reflected in the log since it is after the fact. Problem is I can't see what the Torque Model, Driver Demand or injectors re doing. It could be a torque limitation issue but you will need to log a lot more parameters. Attached is my channel config. You need to be monitoring all of these items.Taz4.Channels.xml

Thank you! That was going to be my next question what should I be logging. I will use your set-up and do another this weekend. I will also be switching to a plug one step colder. Also you are correct the time retard is after the fact.

That's the one thing I don't like about those timing boxes. You can't log them which is pretty scary. I also highly recommend you install a wide band pre-cat.

I keep debating this on my own car. I don't have room to install one pre-cat with my headers anywhere. The only option to constantly run a WB in my car is to install in the secondary bung which is post CAT. I don't think the AFR will be too far off at WOT. Maybe slightly at most.
