Scanner - how many samples per second?

Hi, Is there any data for how many PID readings a second can be achieved with the scanner?

I think the ELM VPM chips can only do about 4, and ELM327 can do about 10 (this is not first hand info).

The reason I ask, is that in addition to the tuning capabilities, I'm looking into using a LCD to replace the gauge cluster in my kit car.

I want to know if the sample rate is fast enough to be useable.

If anyone has a short video of the gauge screen in action, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

the computer rate is 1/28th of a second...(or so I have been told)
the polling sample rate is dependent on number of PID's

a 24 byte car will only reach a max of 20 framed per second
but a 48 byte car will reach 40 frames per second maximum...
the more PID's you add teh slower it polls..
if you look in the help file under the table display of the scaner there is a good description of this and a diagram to show this

Thanks. I had tried to get the help file, but all it would display was "The page cannot be displayed" under any of the help topics. A little more searching, and i found that if you right click on the downloaded chm file, click on properties, then click unblock, it will open up properly. (this is all on win XP)

    Thanks again.

Class 2 (the info coming from the DLC) is at 10,800 bps. Low speed LAN is 33kbps and High speed LAN is 500 kbps (these are comm protocols in the newer cars DLCs). A '99 'vette and '02 Camaro both use class 2 comm protocol. The individual parameter update rates would depend on how much data is coming down the class 2 line (your 24x or 48x).
