Reading the tune from a car is free , you can look all you want but you won't be able to change the file and save it .

You only need to use the credits when you want to save changes to a file or write a tune to a car .

You can also scan what your car is doing without using any credits .
Using the default PID's for scanning is a place to start looking . Check out what your car is doing (I.E knock , fuel trims or fault codes) and some of the information in the "how to's" may make more sense .

If you need to ask any questions specific to your car include some basic information like model & engine as well as any mod's .

    Thanks Arron for your clarification.
I have a question regarding credits. If im tuning a single vehicle, do I need to spend credits each time I update the vehicle tuning.

    Regards

    Go to
    http://www.thetuningschool.com/

They have a beginers book that is specific to HPT. Not going to make you a professional tuner, but a good place to start.

Also, get Greg Banish book "Engine Management: Advanced Tuning"
You can find it at: http://www.cartechbooks.com/
