No serial port.....only USB

I just purchased HPtuners...my new laptop has a USB port but no serial port. They do make an adapter.... serial to USB. Will this adapter give me problems with communication. Should I just get an older computer with a serial port. \

I use a Edgeport USB adaptor and it works great!
