I just did some minor changes to a bin file using the new version.
When I saved it, I didn't have an option to save it as a .bin, only .hpt.
Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Correct.
We are no longer saving as raw/open .bin formats for obvious reasons.

I find this unacceptable. Version 1.7 suits my purposes, and I plan to continue using it until this policy changes.

Why would we change the policy?
When we saved in .bin format, we saved in an open format for all of our customers (AND OTHERS) to view our hard work in plain daylight..
The cons far outweigh the pro's on this one. We will not be changing our policy.

I fully understand. You have your requirements and I have mine. Good luck with this and all your future products.

May I ask why it is you need .bin formats?
FWIW. We were the only people in the industry to save files in raw unencrypted .bin formats. (that I know of)

Yeah, and I am so glad you guys finally changed this. ;D
Only reason I could see for wanting the .BIN file format is to use other software to edited the file. Either due to customers' having different forms of tuning solutions and you need to do mail order stuff ... or some devillish reasons.
Can you not flash a pcm with 2.0 and then read the pcm with 1.x and save as a bin file?Originally Posted by GMC_DUDE
Can 2.0 read my old bin files?
If so should i open them and resave with 2.0 as .hpt files?
I dont mind the new file as long as i can read the old ones.

the flash sectin is integrated into teh editor now...
IF you can open the file..and you have support for that year...you can flash it

Since HPT doesn't have all the parameters I need, I have to get someone to use another piece of software to modify them (Transmission line pressures; fan turn off at certain TPS%). Once these are available, I'm happy with .hpt. I'm not sure I'm going to need it right away since the bin i'm currently using already has them modified, but just answering the question.Originally Posted by Keith@HPTuners
Your not the only company that saves in a raw format. Unless they have an update too

why not post this up in the request portion...hopefully they can put it in a future release...that is if you already havent.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

We will not be adding the ability to save as unencrypted files.
The negative impact on our company from doing so far out numbers the positve impact it has on our customers who actually use it like we intended.

I can understand the economic stance to encrypt your saved files. I ask though – could you please incorporate a BIN editor screen inside the HPT editor itself to allow those of us whom are customers the ability to edit the raw hex outside the set screen edit ability. The ability to edit the raw OS and CAL is a huge benefit to me and I hate to loose that in the future if and when I decide to add support for additional vehicles.
Thank you.

I think this would be a great idea as well, possibly for advanced users only, and not the Novice DYI'ers. I would suggest you post this in the Request and Feedback section.Originally Posted by CatSkynr
Already requested. I can't wait til it gets implemented (Chris said that they may add these), cuz I'm gettin' tired of paying someone to edit my bins with the other program (not much, maybe a coffee) just for testing my line pressures..LOLOriginally Posted by foff667

I'm not sure what it means to not use it like it was intended.
