will a 97 firebird pcm work in a 96 firebird

i have a customer w/ a 96 firebird, hp does not support 96 firebird 3.8l
i was woundering if a 97 firebird ecu would interchange into the 96

This site lists the pcm pinouts as being the same for 95-97.

Seems like the obd connector changed from obd1 to obd2 around 96. May even be that some cars late in the year were hybridized, if I remember right. (obd2 connector but obd1 output)

Looking a little more, this link says the change to obd2 was in '95.
