The crappy part is that they had a filter built just for this application. Can you give a link or pm me a link to the shoehorn stuff? Thanks.

And one thing you'll notice on a dyno is that your power delivery is also VERY erratic with the Vararam G8 and GTO CAIs.

so the k&n kits give smooth airflow into the maf? that is why i didn't go for the vararam kit for my G8, i didnt like how the maf sat on it. i have always liked the k&n kits and now the make one for the G8.

    +1 on the link,
RWTD, are you talking about the air filter element only ?, i don't really have more room at all for a filter bigger than the one that comes with the LPE CAI. the filter is made by S&B, and i'm sure K&N would have one on the same size. but i wonder if just replacing our filters would fix those jagged out readings ???

Is the short distance from the filter to the MAF to the throttle body an issue?

RWTD, do you think this style of intake would be any better?

i think the part RWTD refers to as a shoehorn is the plastic part between the air filter and the MAF in this picture here, it looks a bit like the old velocity stacks. sorry but i could not find a good picture of one, K&N does not show that part by itself but it comes in every kit i have ever installed.

it is my understanding that if there is not a straight path into the MAF(like vararam) it can cause turbulence. turbulence in the MAF will give you an erratic reading.

Well, i was able to install the stock airbox back in my car car with paper filter and everything, i was going to take her for a spin to do some logs, but the wife stopped me on the premises that the entire neighborhood would probably wake up at 1:00am

I'll try to take some logs tomorrow morning, if not, i'll have to wait until Tuesday to post them up since i'll be out of town for a couple of days.

    Sleep is overrated! LOL!

I'm very interested in your results. I've got my stock intake too but haven't had time to put it back.

Curious, who makes that particular kit, because that is VERY nice, and definitely better than the K&N FIPK setup.

    Here's the K&N FIPK setup:

The one you showed it definitely a better arrangement, has less couplers, which means smoother, and a bigger filter!

Yeup, I personally believe the Roto-Fab kit is the best on the market at this time.

This are the results between the LPE CAI and my Stock CAI, little bit more smooth, but still jaggy, although, i'll need to smooth the MAF table to see what happens. LPE is blue, Stock Airbox is the redline

That comparison has made me seriously consider trading my Vararam for the Rotofab. Dang! Anyone want to swap?
