    Failed to Validate?

I'm trying to tune a customers Cobalt SS, and I keep getting a failed to validate error. I also cannot connect with the scanner, but I can connect with a standard handheld OBDII scanner.

Any idea what would be causing this? Is it possible that if this has been tuned before it would be locking me out? It is connecting to some degree, because it's reading the VIN in the log file.

Try updating to the newest beta as the one you are using is roughly 2 years old and is no longer supported.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Link? All I can find is the 2.22 which I thought was older than my beta?

Ok, so now the scaner works, and I'm able to connect, but now it says "Security Codes Denied - Unknown Error : 11" I read other posts on this, and they say do a read, then a write....but I can't even do a read, and since I've never read this car, I have nothing to write to it!

Has the pcm been previously tuned? Have you tried 2.22 the newest stable software version? Can't say I've ever heard of seeing an unknown error 11 error on a p12 pcm, ever. So this is something new.

I'm not sure if it's been tuned, I can't download to find out what's on there. But from the way it's running I would say no.

Do I need to uninstall the Beta completely first, or just write over the top of it?

Or even better can I run them both at the same time on the same comp?

Alright, I've tried 4 computers, and 3 different cables, and both versions (2.22 & 2.23), all pretty much the same result. One won't validate (original problem, prob because he doesn't have the latest beta version), and all the others give error code 11, unknown (inc V2.22).

I really need to get this customer rolling, please help..

    Pcm was likely previously tuned/tunerlocked.

But wouldn't that give me a code besides 11? From what I've read Code 11 isn't even a real code that exists.

I just don't want to go order a PCM to find out that's not the problem.

its an unknown code that we have no info on, if you aren't sure if the pcm has been tunerlocked but can't read it out we are just making an educated guess as well.

If there's no core with another ordering another one, you want this one?

So I've found a slew of LSJ P12 PCM's, but apparently they fit a whole bunch of vehicles? So how would I go about programing one of these to fit the SS? I've got a stock 07 SS file from another car (which I have already licensed), but from what I understand you shouldn't just go around writing files. So do I read the PCM license it, then copy/paste everything or is it a completely different OS that needs to be on there? The 12610624? The I assume I need to change the VIN too?

    CK

  16. #16
Ok, still having problems. I got a new ECU, HPT doesn't have the def file to support it...
I got ANOTHER ECU, this time from a SC Redline of the same year, I was finally able to read it!

But now the damn thing won't start. I tried VATS relink, says it's not supported. I disabled the VATS, did a write...nothing. Write entire....noting. Try to change the VIN and it tells me that I'm not licensed! (I'm assuming licensed for the chassis vin?) But I have no way to license the chassis because it would never let me read with the original PCM to license it. I don't get this. I was able to change the ecu just fine in my C5 vette. But this damn car is giving me such a headache...

    Bill please help!

Technically speaking the malibu pcm you purchased is not supported hence the reason for the def file issue.

My advice would be to have the dealer flash to stock via tech 2 then reread. Unless the vehicle has some radical cams or some other oddball combination the vehicle should start/drive fine on the stock calibration.

Fixed, Dealer flashed the new (used) ECU to the correct VIN and VATS info. Starts runs, and I'm able to tune.
