Cam position sensor needed on 06 cobalt 2.0?

I swapped a 2006 2.0 saab engine into one of my sandrails and am running a lsj pcm. The problem is the saab 2.0 does not have or use a cmp sensor. Im not getting a ckp signal from the motor as well even though the blocks are the same as well as the ckp sensor and wheel. Im not picking up any rpm on the scanner while cranking and it will no start. Just curious if your cars will run with out the use of the cmp sensor so i can rule that out. Thanks for the help.

The car should be able to start up and run without camshaft position sensor. You need to check crankshaft position sensor, if you are not getting a rpm signal.
