    96-97 Vortec Trucks

What are you guys doing to tune 96-97 L31 style black box ecm's. I have a request to tune a 96 Tahoe. I have not tried to get a read yet on it but very doubtful I will be able to read it. Can you use a 98-00 ecm in a 96 model? Thanks

They are likely swapping in a newer 98+ ecm.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

^This to use HP Tuners. The only other option is to buy JET DST to tune the 96-97 ECU. The 98 swap is fairly easy to execute and gives you the option for using better logging and tuning interface.

If you are going that route I would suggest going the whole way and using a 0411 PCM. That gives you even more options.

At least look into before making the decision. Search google for 0411 swap, you'll come across the name Lextech a lot and for good reason, he has a lot of good info and can provide everything you need to do the swap for under $200...

Myself, I am doing the swap on my 98 suburban this weekend.

    Update:
I did mine over the weekend and I couldn't be happier. It seems to have made a huge improvement, and the tuning options are wide open... Highly recomend

I swapped in a 0411pcm. Better tuning options, and faster pcm
