Thread: Camaro Flex Fuel

  1. #1

    Camaro Flex Fuel

    I enabled flex fuel in the tune, and put the sensor into place.
    It outputs 62Hz right now, indicating that there is a small amount of alcohol in the fuel. I read this with a meter.
    But I don't see anything when scanning. Alcohol content is still 0%.
    Pin 40 on X1 is being used. E38 ECU.

    Any idea where I should be looking for the issue?

    Is there a PID listed for the sensor alcohol content that needs to be added to the table?

    There is a PID, and I'm logging it, but no alcohol content change yet.

    Is there a minimum valve needed to elicit a change? I've got it zero'd out.

    I believe I remember reading you have to enable flex fuel in the tune, but I've personally never tried it. i run E85.

    If you post your tune and your scanner config and a scan others will help out.

    Post the tune. There may be parameters that hptuners has not added yet. I ran into the same problem on my sts-v.

    This was painful when I tried to do this, so I hope my mistakes can help you.
    First, make sure you're on a newer version of HPT. My current version is 2.24.965.

    Engine Diag -> Airflow -> Flex Fuel = Enable
    -> DTC -> P0178 & P0179 = SES Enable, 1-MIL on Second Error

    Engine -> Fuel -> Open & Closed Loop -> (left-most column) -> Flex Fuel = Enabled
    -> Fuel Sensor = Sensor
    -> Def. Freq = 90
    -> Comp Change Thresh = 2.0
    -> Delay Volume = 0.132
    -> Transition Volume = 0.026

    (I can't remember where I got those FF values, so YMMV)

    That should be enough to get it to read some value. Most gasoline was 10% ethanol, so it should read something.

    Here is the tune and a quick log.

    I made the suggested changes. With a multi-meter, I can read 62Hz, which means the sensor is seeing ethanol.
    But it's still 0% on the scanner.
    Is it possible that I have the wrong pin?
    Can someone verify the proper pin for the flex fuel sensor on a Camaro E38?

    I do appreciate the help.

    Very odd. I had no issues with a CTS-V.

    E38_pinout picture.jpg

    I took a picture of my old warning harness where I looped the FF sensor wire back to the pin, just so it was easier to see which it is. Comparing my picture to the pinouts that are available through Google searches, yes, it looks like it's pin 40.

    One thing that I'll add... I didn't do a good job of getting the pin to latch into the connector. I got sick of messing with it and instead put rubber contact cement on the pin to hold it to the connector.

    If you're get a wave from the FF sensor, and it looks like you enabled everything in your tune file, I'll guess that the pin isn't seating correctly in the harness.

    Well, I must have had a similar issue. Took everything apart again, removed and replace the pin, and added contact grease. Now it is reading. All is good now.
    Must have just been a bad connection. Thank you all for the help.
    Sorry for wasting your time.
