Scaling---Should cranking VE and Startup AF be scaled?

Not sure about the first one but when I scale start up airflow the car runs horribly. Whats the purpose of startup airflow? As of right now with it left stock whenever I FIRST start the car the AFR stays around 20...it sputters pretty bad and either stalls or eventually smooths out. Also, should the cranking VE be set to 50 across the board since I have a 50% scale? Lastly, what about throttle opening rates?

I scaled a TBSS that had horrible startup until I scaled cranking VE.

Man thanks for this tidbit Dave. My startup had always been kind of rough even though I had my startup airflow in-line with my minimum airflow. I didn't figure that the cranking VE would need to be scaled since the actual VE was scaled but changing my cranking VE from 100% to 84% made a huge difference in startup.

Drove me nuts when I couldn't get the TBSS to start clean. Made that one change, and it fired up perfect.

Ok my question is this....my car starts fine on my messed up tune from last year. 63.5# across the board for injector size but I was running(and still am) 83# injectors. This year im running same cam and injectors but cncd heads and an LSXR 102 manifold and I scaled the tune 50%. On the old tune it will start up this way perfectly..as soon as I run an exact 50% scale it does not want to start..the AFRs peg to 20 for a few then go down. As far as startup airflow goes..at 50% scale with or without VE startup halved, ive added over 30% of the airflow back into it..and while it doesnt start up perfect it starts up way better than it did with it at exactly half.

With the ported heads and much bigger intake shouldn't I need even LESS VE startup airflow to get rid of the lean spot during initial firing of engine???
