    Torque Management?

The help file says the torque management number is the "Maximum allowed engine torque." Is that number in actual lbs/ft or some other number that in some conversion equals actual lbs/ft of torque? My .bin file says 350, last time I went to the dyno with N2O, my little truck spit out 482 lbs/ft of torque which is slightly above the "Maximum allowed engine torque" number according to my .bin file. :huh2:

    Thanks,

    MC

The value is in ft/lbs of torque.

The Max Torque (and a few others) are used for electronic throttle control. Most of those values are bypassed for standard throttle.

I guess I'm too much of a newbie. What exactly does that mean? What is the difference between the 2?

Torque is pound-feet. Work is foot-pounds.
At least, until after the final exam, at which
point you can say it however you like.

    Re: Torque Management?

So which of the Engine Torque Management
tables / limit boxes are actually "in effect"
on an F-body? I just set all mine up to 640
(box) and 638 (table) but have some notions
about using the vs-RPM-in-gear table to make
    a better-behaved 1st gear by limiting torque
    to just below breakaway.

I guess we could just go scale them all to 100
    and see, but....

    Re: Torque Management?

    I wasn't asking the difference between ft/lbs and lbs/ft.

I meant what is the difference between electronic throttle control and standard throttle. Ken said Max Torque is used for electronic throttle and is bypassed for standard throttle.

    Re: Torque Management?

The max torque settings are for electronic throttle or trans abuse. If you are not seeing any spark retard, you are not getting any torque reduction.

In order to reduce engine power without burning up the exhaust system, GM closes the electronic throttle.

Trying to limit torque through an entire load range by pulling timing only results in the burn being completed in the exhaust system instead of the cylinders.
