2003 Chevrolet Express van with Lq4 - tuning for T56

Hey all,

Have done a search both in the forum and the repository with no hits?

Currently have a 03 express van LQ4 that I'm bolting a T56 up to. How far do I have to go into the tune to make this work? Just change trans type to manual? I know I'll have to mess w/ the ppm to get the speedo correct, but is that all I have to do without segment swapping or anything?

This is my first manual swap tune and don't want to burn credits I don't have to. Will just changing the trans type have the ECM looking for the clutch switch?

Changing it to manual will really do nothing.

Do a segment swap if you can or you will have to disable all transmission related codes and any abuse mode in the computer to make it work.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't think it was that easy. I haven't had a chance to segment swap yet. Can I just use an 02 Z28 tune and segment swap the trans section or do I need credits to do that?

The 4l80e and the nv4500 has the same gear ratios if i remember right what pcm are you working with year ? bro

Thanks man, I got the setup as a full package, 03 ECM (green/blue), accy, harness, etc. Was going to go big but budget is forcing me to install it as is with longtube headers for the time being. I pulled the tune w/ my bench harness but have yet to really sit down and look it over.

Finally got on my laptop, here's the stock tune pulled from the ECM. How would I go about finding something with the same OS?

It aint stock that's for sure, someone has already modded the computer before you.

Someone set it up for a 2 bar speed density OS already, you won't find a manual transmission OS to use the segment swapper with. It's setup for like 60-80lb injectors, timing looks funky and that VE is something horrible too.

If it was stock you can search the tune repository for similar year cars/trucks that run manual transmissions to use the segment swap feature with.

:banghead: I appreciate you checking it out. If I get a stock tune flashed in it from the stealership, would I be able to segment swap then? ..along that line, are there factory 6.0L trucks with manuals? I might could get the VIN for that and have that flashed to start with.

Ok, after a "brief" intermission chasing rust and other things, I'm ready to fire this up and get the tune right. I've posted the tune that's in the ECM above. I have credits purchased.

Should I use the tune I have and try to segment swap for the T56?
Should I carry the ECM to a stealership and have a different VIN flashed and start with it?
Can I download from the repository and completely overwrite this tune?

I've tried finding a tune in the repository that I could segment swap the manual trans over, and like 5FDP said, I'm having a difficult time trying to find anything that will allow me to segment swap. The original owner sent me the stock tune (attached). I can segment swap from it to the tune that's in the ECM, but I have not done so in case I need a different tune. Please set me in the right direction!

The tune you posted "Original_ecm-2-22-17" is still NOT the stock tune, its setup for Speed Density - 2 bar (RTT).
Is the VIN Number in the PCM the correct vin for that engine? If so I can pull the stock config from GM for you and post it.

The tune file posted in post 11 of this thread is not the stock tune file. Like he said that is still the 2 BAR OS.

Just click the tune and look at the calibration details page or just open the airflow table and look at the linear/offset settings the VE table that goes to 210kpa.


It may be the "tune" you pulled from the computer but it not even close to a stock calibration. The calibration on the file you have posted has already be modified before you. You may have just linked the wrong file that was given to you by the previous owner.

Engine has a stock 1 bar sensor sensor.. not sure where to go next.

Since this tune is not going to work? Should I just take the ecm and have it flashed with a VIN better suited to what I'm doing? If so, Looking forward to doing a.c. Later on, should I go truck? Car? Vette?

One of the problems I see is that you are using a P59 computer, so any OS that is from an older P01 computer used in the LS1 camaro or firebirds would not work. It would be a clash of different OS and different computer, something is likely to go wrong and turn it into a paper weight.

The corvettes of the time that used the P59 were all drive by wire computers and not drive by cable.

The picture kinda looks like a DBW throttle body even though this computer is made for a cable setup.

It is dbw setup. Would it be best to find a 03 Silverado 4.8 with the nv3500?

I tested trying to segment swap the older red/blue tunes and it won't even give me the option to, it's greyed out. I'm glad it's smarter than me..

Because it's a P59 PCM, you can't use older F-Body stuff. Is the engine modded or stock?

I think you should have a different factory tune flashed into the P59 that you have for a manual trans vehicle with a cable throttle and then go from there. 2004 GTO OS would probably be a decent factory flash to start with. If the engine is a stock LQ4, you could still copy the timing/ve/fuel in from a 2004 LQ4 2500HD and then make tune adjustments for the intake/headers from there, if it's not a stock LQ4 it'll need tuning anyways so you could start with the 2004 LS1 stuff already in the GTO OS.

Sorry, just saw that it's drive by wire...this means you could start with a 2004 CTS-V stock OS instead of the GTO I mentioned above, that's a drive by wire LS6/T56 car...but you may have TB/TPS compatibility issues...what TAC module do you have? You can make an auto OS work, but simple things like the reverse lockout won't work right and it's annoying...I'm sure we can help you get it right if you know what you've got for hardware.
