So not to get your hopes up. A birdie told me that it has been cracked. However there are issues. I hear gm flashed it back stock overnight after a flash. So basically there is going to have to be some external modules that will have to be made to eliminate wireless communications, and still allow the ecm to think those communications are still present. It looks very doable, but what will the cost be. I understand a very well known contributor on this forum, and zr1 owner is at the forefront of making this possible
Sweet I have one customer ready to tune. Lol
its likely not going to be anytime soon, and likely not anything anybody is going to want to pay for ie buckets of money
The explanation I was told was literally it is cost prohibitive. If you thought the l5p stuff was expensive, you better hold on.
thanks for the update and gm has me annoyed idk why their making it so hard not being able to tune the car that is half the reason why im holding off on getting one im sure its a definite throw off for other ppl interested in a zr1 to pretty bad call on gm i think
SO your saying they can flash OTA???? That is violating about 10 privacy laws. Show me anywhere that says the hardware is LICENSED to us, we own it. This is not Microsoft. Voiding your warranty is a choice. I did mine after 2 weeks of ownership. Plus, that could be dangerous as hell in more ways than I can count.Quote:

The point that is trying to be made here is that the manufacturers will come up with a way to actually lock the cars down. This is the beginning of the self driving car. In order for those to happen, you have to have the ability to forcefully maintain complete and utter control of all systems. If it can be hacked, they dont want it on the road. It doesn't matter what rights you think you have. If you want something, you will have to follow the rules of owning that. This isnt an ipad, this is the beginning of something that is essentially life or death. People dont die when you jailbreak an iphone. This is what the manufacturers see when looking at this. This isn't the epa cracking down on emissions. Honestly I dont think gm really gives a damn about emissions, or locking their ecms to protect emissions integrity. This is so much further forward than that

I can't believe all the people saying things like wow Tesla has self driving cars, has zero emissions, zero maintenance, dosent breakdown, and cost no money to operate. I think the autopilot and all the other "self driving" features they have now are just basically an extension of adaptive cruise control. There are so many scenarios to account and program for, and idiots think Tesla will have a car you can get into and say an address across the country and it will drive them there while they watch Harry Potter the whole way there, and they think that it will be here in a couple years. And the worst part is they think its the coolest thing ever that they will basically have a car like an iPhone that everyone else has, it will have complete authority and information on where you go and be completely locked down. I could go own forever how mad this makes me and how dismal of an outlook the future has. Anyway sorry for the rant, but I feel we are helpless, we just don't have the numbers to boycott.
