    Fan adjustement on the LSJ

What setting do you guy's have on your LSJ?
FAN%vs ECT should it be 100% across the board to keep the engine running cooler?

check the V8 section for Chris's post about the LS2 fan settings since they are very similar to the I4 settings.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

I didn't read the 8 cylinder thread BUT don't do just 100% lol. Oil at a very minimum needs to be 150 to properly lubricate, and it starts to break down and coke at 240( I believe ) for regular oil, and synthetic is 280 ( I believe ). So you want to have your car run in a sweet spot, basically 180 is best, but depends on what your doing. 180 is fine for daily driver, but maybe you want the fan to cool it down a little earlier since it also will cool your aftercooler at the same time. I raised the fan temps a little bit, but really it shouldn't be to much needed. Just have it work in relation with your thermostat, and how much outside temps affect. if you live in a desert and you idle alot, you may want to raise above 200 up more then I would since I live in NH where, right now will probably snow soon Lol. Good luck, ohh and read the thread Foff suggested, he's the man, helped me alot.

I gradually bring mine up to 100%. Mine come on a little over 190. I cant remember the exact temp though that they come on at.

This is how I would set the fans. Looking at the Fan State table, fan 1 comes on at 53% and fan 2 comes on at 68%. Then fan 2 is off at 59% and fan 1 is off at 44%. So looking at the Fan Desired% vs. ECT table, at 196*F fan 1 will come on and at 199*F fan 2 will come on. Then between 199*F and 196*F fan 2 will turn off and fan 1 will turn off below 196*F.

Since the table starts at 192*F, there is no way to get the fans on any lower than 196*F or they will never turn off. You could enter 68% in place of 53% in the Fan Desired table to turn both fans on at 196*F for better cooling.

I haven't looked under the hood in a long while just cause of other projects but don't we only have 1 fan, I don't remember though, but if we do then we really only need to concentrate on fan 1. I don't even need fans at this point in time, now that it'll be under 30 most of the rest of the year lol. car idles at 180 but even driving in WOT now it's under 170

Not sure if the Cobalt has 1 or 2 fans. Fan 1 could also mean low speed & fan 2 would then be high speed.

That would make sense, I'll keep that as a side note if I do change fan settings.

I don't have HPTuners yet, but I have been tuned with it. I belive my 1st fan is always on (turns on as soon as I turn the car on, is that bad?) Fan 2 kicks in when ECT reaches 189, and shuts off I belive at 180.

Add 25% to all temps in the fan % table.

Then go under the Fan Setting (forgot what called, where everything is 1's and 0's, and make the top 2 rows all 1's.

If you live somewhere where it's hot, that's fine, but your fan will lose some life. But if you live somewhere that's cold you'll find that you don't need the fan on at all, when it's 40 degrees here my fan doesn't even come on, driving temps stay cold at about 170 while hot whether with fan it's about 180-200.
