Thumbs up Ohio Tuning Class a "Calibrated Success"!!!

First off a big thanks to Greg Banish for coming onto this board and offering a real tuning class for us guys.

Overall I loved the class, exactly what I was looking for, technical.

The 1st day was a long day but a ton of info was provided. Greg explained the proper way to tune a car. Pretty much explained the do's and don'ts in english for the average joe to understand. The book that he gave us has a ton of info, not only for tuning, but other info about how to tune your car.

He showed the ideal way to tune the VE and MAF table. A lot of us HPT guys pretty much know how to tune these but he added onto to it.

Since Greg was familar with HP Tuners and has it himself, he answered a bunch of questions about what some of the tables mean and why you should change some of them. I also found out that HP Tuners is missing a VERY IMPORTANT table that Ford has that we don't, it will make part throttle fueling much better. It's in the GM code, Greg showed me in the GM software that he has and uses. Greg said he will be talking to the HPT guys about this table to get it added for us at the show this week.

In a way, I wish the class was longer on Sunday, can never learn enough! After taking this class makes me feel even more confident in my tuning abilities.

I took a few pics, check them out!

    Thanks again Greg!

It was a small notebook type that Greg put together for the class for us to follow along with him on the projector/computer.

He will be having a published book coming out next year!

Thanks for the kind words, even if your pics make it look like we had an empty classroom. It was a pleasure having you guys attend. I enjoy the wider variety of questions, as this helps everyone learn something different. (including me sometimes!) I'm glad you were happy with the class.
    Now it's time to practice...

There's a table describing transport delay for exhaust gases between the valve and HEGO sensor that should be added to better adjust for longtube headers in some applications. I'll mention it to Keith/Ken when I see them at the show later this week. It should be a simple fix for them that may not necessarily effect everyone with headers.

Please keep us updated on the progress of the new table...I'm always looking for tables to change values in, especially if I don't know what they do

    Exclamation

Greg really knows his stuff. The way he explains it is unreal. If you have a good understanding about tuning and car engines, he keeps your interest going all day long. I could listen to him talk about tuning for hours on end (as long as I can ask a few questions along the way ).

When I asked the question about insufficent switching of the O2s that we see in our cars, Greg mentioned that we have to adjust transport delay, I'm like what? He explained it in great detail and then showed us in the SCT software and then in the GM software.

Another thing I learned and was rather surprised, Greg informed me that inbedded in the GM code (at least for our LS1 files) GM put descriptions for each of the tables, kinda basic but they are there. Must be where HPT gets them from.

It was nice meeting everone there and I had a awesome time, wish it was longer. I highly recommend that almost everyone should go. Even though I knew a lot of what he was talking about, he explained it in a different way which helped it all make that much more sense. It's a real bargain IMHO.

Thanks again and I hope you offer a more advanced class, even if it's only a 1 day class.
