There are a lot of people getting really bent up about this. I think the point is to get people to actually try to type properly so we can understand what they're actually needing.
As mentioned, English as a second (or third or fourth) language is understandable, as is spelling mistakes or mistypes.
How about a few (rough) examples?
Scenario 1;
This guy is obviously in a hurry, and didn't notice the two spelling mistakes, or the missed punctuation. This is understandable, we make mistakes sometimes.Hey guys, I'm trying to tune a 2012 Camaro SS.
I downloaed the beta and it doesn't seem to be allowing me to read hte PCM.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
And yes, he should contact support for the beta.
Scenario 2;
This is the typical 'English isn't my first language' user. Ask for help, surprisingly good English, and always seems to apologize; even though their post are 100 times better than some of the other junk that people post (see scenario 3). Again, acceptable.Hi. I need help tuning GM-Daewoo.
I buy turbo kit from US to install on car.
Sorry for bad english, I'm Korean.
Scenario 3;
This is the stuff that makes us grouchy. As soon as I see 'plz', 'tun', or 'thx' in a post, I automatically hit the back button on my browser. In my eyes, if you can't take the time to type the whole word, you're not worth my time.Plz hlp I'm tryn to tun a 98 Cav LN2. Intake, hdr, plgs.
I red the pcm but dont know how to chng stuff. LOL.
Can some1 upld a tun for me?
Thx
I should also note it took my nearly 5 minutes to try to type that example out.

I agree, my 9 year old daughter gets to use a special calculator in her math class to calculate the remainder, sorry but I can't remember using a calculator for anything in math, it was all done by hand or in your head so yeah calculators be damned lol. I'm all for posts that I can understand, also I'm not a big fan of CAPITAL LETTERS TO PROVE A POINT lol.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Damn. In High School we were so old-fashioned there were no telephones. Instead the teachers communicated with their superiors via smoke signals. You can imagine how everything else went.

A joy in living in nowhere land... Bought Calibrated Success hoping to use to tune my wheels. Just confused me. Took to local Mr. Fix-It. 4 months later no go. Am trying to decide if success or failure the end result of doing it myself. Too many questions unanswered. Stock '07 4.6 Caddy SRX. Want to try for 20-30 more hp. Don't know if other parts (injectors, new MAF, etc) needed. Anyone withsome good, valid advise?? Thanks
It all depends on how knowledgable you are about cars and comfortable working on them. When I bought HPTuners a few years ago I started reading everything I could before starting. I realized it was going to be an adventure, but I also realized no one was going to spend the time on my car to get the tune spot on like I was. There have been times I thought I got everything right only to discover (after more reading) it wasn't. Over the course of trial and error, I have learned a tremendous amount of information and still have more to learn.
In the end I feel my tune is much, much better than anything I would have paid for (at least around where I live). I tuned it on the street so it drives and behaves as it should around town and flies when I smash it. But without HPtuners and my dual wideband sensors it wouldn't have happened.
Good to hear from someone.. As to comfort, I'm collecting a pension so that automatically puts me as "old". Been playing with engines since the late '50's. Have a nice 355, fueley heads, 2.02valves, etc puttin out around 415horses sitting in a '56. The newer stuff though is out of my experience, hence the question as to injectors or whatever. As for computerization, ECM, etc. I'm not shy as I build computers from scratch. It's just that they aren't for cars but rather for ofice use. It's the computer to auto interface that worries me. As stated, I'm looking for 25-30 horses and don't know if the HP tuner will supply that or do I need to start replaceing engine/fuel/cam etc parts...
Well my friend I too am collecting a pension after 35 years of service to my country and have been building my own computers since the 8086 processor days. I can also remember when tuning a car was changing plugs, points setting timing/dwell and maybe fooling around with carb jetting.
It is hard to say what parts may need to be changed for an additional 20-30 HP on your car. I have a 99 T/A with an LS1 and initially added headers and removed the restrictive air intake parts with better flowing ones. Looking for more power I bought HPTuners and after performing scans on the car I found out the stock injectors were maxing out at 100% duty cycle due to the mods. Thats how I knew I needed bigger injectors. Changing injectors and adding a larger intake manifold required additional tweaking of the tune. This needed a wideband O2 to closely monitor AFR. Then by re-scanning the car, I was able to adjust the VE tables and recalibrate the MAF so my Commanded AFR and actual AFR matched. The basically stock LS1 (350 rated at 320HP) was now providing 425HP at the flywheel. By being able to monitor what's going on with your engine, you can see what it needs and adjust accordingly. Even minor adjustments to the stock tune will improve performance and drivability.
