    Question 2009 Sierra 6.2 - Shooting for 20MPG and 450 HP....

    Hello,

I'm certainly a rookie, but if anyone wanted to run through a log file - You would be awesome in my book!

I've changed the trans for some easy improvements, and figured I would go all out and see what happens. I placed the 2014 Silverado 6.2 (Gen 5) VVT table and spark table (Low octane) in my Gen 4 6.2

So far - It's awesome! Prior the VVT was a punch, now it is so smooth that you can't tell when it happens.

Looking at the log file, how truck log.hpl, how much spark knock is normal? Is there an easy way to search the log? It doesn't appear to be greater than 5 degrees of knock retard, and it's short bursts.

As far as the tune goes - the MAF frequency is negative for the first few cells, from the factory. Any ideas why? And if I change them, I can't make them negative again, I had to revert to an old save.

I've replaced the 02's and the MAF, trying to discover my 15 MPG, when it was getting 17-18 a year or two ago. The 02's were greatly needed - instant improvement. The MAF, I can't tell. Now I'm just trying to make it as powerful and efficient as possible.

    Thanks for reading!

Would be best to post your tune too. You can get better fuel economy by tweaking a few little things such as cruising spark, dfco and so on. Power's a different story.

All right, not sure what that was about? I do have a pretty nice tune for the 6.2 with a 6speed and CAI, but it's in SCT. Don't have it in HP for some stupid reason. I've copied nearly every tune ever done with the other tuning programs in HP except this one. If the tune file is posted I can make the spark and so on changes to it from my SCT files... It won't get much better fuel economy as it was power focused. It was only getting OE fuel economy, but the owner's that I give this to usually don't stay out of the throttle anymore Very, Very nice gains down low, just 20 to 30 gains for power and torque up top...

If you really don't mind spending the money, then yes something like a blower whether magnuson, whipple, procharger or what not would be the best way to go for power. Probably won't help too much with economy though...

Lakegoat, what does your 05 GTO put down? I'm currently doing a 416 build and tune on our ZL1 close to your setup and was just curious. Also in the middle of installing a 2.3 heartbeat on a 15 Z28, that one's turning into a nightmare to say the least but I guess that's how it goes when your the third shop out there to do so with a particular product and the first shop to do it with their so called "kit"... Unless I'm mistaken here it's a ls7 base with lsa top making for a very nice flowing and efficient blower

Yeah, I wish I had the new Heartbeat, but this TVS2300 has been great. It puts down 640 to the wheels. That's with a little less than 10# boost. Your ZL1 should do better with the higher compression. Mine is about 10:1.
I'm not sure about the h/b base, but the top is a new design, not the LSA.
I just mentioned the Maggie because I know a guy with a '14 Silverado 5.3/2300, stock motor, cam, manifolds, with about 450 hp and gets 20 on the highway-- sorta where the OP wanted to be.

I was thinking of starting with long tube headers and no cats. Good ol' Michigan doesn't care about emissions. Down the road a Cam and LSA blower would be super awesome, but I can just afford headers right now.

OK, took a while to transfer. Can't guarantee the DFCO to work correctly with your application. These DFCO settings are more for a cam and blower setup car. Harder to get them into dfco SO you should go into dfco easier with this = hopefully better fuel economy. IF it gives problems, just dial the dfco back a little... You'll also want to dial in the high octane spark table a touch for your engine, fuel, intake and possible carbon buildup and so on. You should be able to just load this straight into your truck, quickly evaluate after the 15 minute rich after flash clears out and recheck you fueling. I didn't modify the trans tables like I normally do. Figured you might all ready have them close to how you want them - Plus I changed the airmass tables a slight touch anyway which should bump up the trans aggressiveness on it's own...

Also do not know how this will work with the changes you've all ready made. Go easy to begin with just in case

It's in beta... Sorry, should have said that to begin with. Email Bill (technical assistance on HP Tuner Website), He can hopefully get you access before the end of the day. Just make sure to tell him you were referred to it from the forum...
