    ghost cam

Is anybody tuning to produce a ghost cam on gen III's. I see a bunch of guys doing it on gen IV's but nothing on III's I tried with the settings they used for IV's but tables are quite a bit different, so I basically guessed. I could not get it to work. Does it have to do with the sensitivity of the computer or am I just doing it wrong?

    thanks in advance

I'd have to guess setting the idle timing, over under etc to make it "sound like" it has a cam......

Mate to get the 'CHOPPY " cam sound you need to put a bigger overlap stick in it...plus if you modify the stock overspeed/underspeed tables you are inducing a unstable idle ....just my opinion mate but that is what you need to do, it is what it is.....cheers Bret ULTIMATE LSX TUNING

that's what I am trying to do with the overspeed/underspeed tables. This weekend I successfully did it on a gen IV, even a gen V sierra, with success. Was just wondering if anybody has done it to gen III's. Was just wondering if sensitivity was higher on the later pcms.

oh, and by ghost cam I am referring to producing a choppy idle within the settings, and still utilizing a stock cam. Basically just producing an aggressive cam sound without having to actually do it. I have been having quite a few customers ask if it was possible to get the sound without a cam swap, as they dont need the extra power, and dont want to loose fuel mileage and the drive-ability that comes with a cam swap. Aparently there are a few videos on youtube about this

got it figured out, just needed to get way more aggressive with idle spark tables. for stock cam, sounds really aggressive

well recording on iphone isn't best deff. sounds better in person. Now for a customer with a bone stock motor but just wants that cam feel, without everything that goes with a cam, it's hard to turn someones money down with small change on a stock tune

That's true sounds awesome for customers that don't have the cash for a cam & they just want the noise

It doesn't sound quite like the real thing but would probably fool a lot of people. Did you just crank up the idle spark over/underspeed? I might play with this on my car for a laugh.

I don't hear any cam sound at all in that vid. All I hear is what sounds like a bad tune.

most changes were in over/underspeed, cranking timing changes way out between +/- 40 to 50*gets real choppy, shakes the truck just like a cam. you have to turn off misfire recognition at idle speeds. also raise idle to about 700-800 for most chop. I agree does not sound just like a cam, but most of my customers coming in asking for it understand it wont replace a cam. Just sitting at a red light, it would fool most people.

and as far as a bad tune. if its exactly what the customer asks for and affects nothing more than idle alone, driveability remains the same, is it really a bad tune? sheesh tough crowd

    Funny.
It's certainly not the tuners job to account for the taste of the customer!

I never said that it was a bad tune, just that it sounds like a bad tune. Hey, if someone is silly enough to pay you to give them that kind of idle then give them what they want. I was just commenting that it didn't have a cam sound to me.
