can i adjust idle spark on the run using vcm controls just like idle speed?
09 CTS-V A6
i tried to adjust spark with vcm controls,, but the car almost stalled when i disabled adaptive spark,, why?
and vcm only allowed me to reduce timing,, absolute and plus were inactive,, please advise,,

Well not your actual PC, but the computer you have in your car. I take it that your a GEN 3 computer since your posting here and not a Gen 4??

Thats a Gen 4 computer, you should ONLY be able to minus spark. Becareful though b/c spark will only minus to whatever the higher of the idle or high octane spark.

IF you disable spark and it tries to die, airflow is wrong. You know the idle is right when you don't have to count on spark to make it idle correctly. To be honest fuel as the biggest impact on idle from what I have seen.

That's fine depending on how big the tube is. Since it idles that high you probably have a round a 3.25inch tube with a 85mm style maf

I used this idle tuning guide before, works great. Thank You!!!!
But last week,I was working on a LS1 T/A with a mild 222/226 cam,and it did not worked at all.
Once the VE and MAF were dialed in.
I had to add 40-50% of base running airflow for it to idle correctly.I got it 90-95% OK,but not 100% perfect.
Couldn't figure out why it needed the extra airflow for it to idle.
But I noticed that their was a hole that was drilled in the TB about 1/4 inch or a bit bigger. I'm guessing this is the issue.
Any suggestions to fix it 100% ? Or just keep guessing the base running airflow?
The way it is now, when I log the idle adapt (STIT) sometimes it's as much as -50's, and example, the idle desired airflow is 1.2 and I have to set the base running airflow to 1.5-1.7 for it to idle.
Thanks in advance.
Edit:I also tried to add 4-5% of fuel on the VE table and MAF at idle.Redid the idle tuning, the base running airflow and the desired airflow matched perfect and it idled perfect. So I was wondering if I should fix it this way?

Sometimes Idle desired is NOT what the engine really wants, its just a calculation. IF a hole in the TB is too big or the throttle plate is open too far you'll get a really low idle desired. If Idle trims are swinging that much I would say fuel is way off and possibly timing. Also remember Idle desired will always follow IAC.

Thanks for the reply.
Idle timing is set at 24 degrees.
The VE table is 0 to -2 accross the board and I adjusted the MAF to match the VE.
Unless theirs an issue with the MAF at idle.
Because at first,I had tuned the car from idle to 4000RPM in SD only, everything was great including the idle, but when I reenable the MAF, that's when I started to have idle issues. The MAF was off a bit, so I thought I' d adjust the MAF to think,it would cure it.But it did not.So I took the intake out and that's when I notice the drilled TB.
The customer is very happy with his car,it run's 10 times better than before.Don't know if the previous tuner had a bad sensor or something but it didn't idle at all and was pig rich everywhere.
But I know that's theirs an idle issue and I would like to fix it 100% and not 90% or less.I can get the car back, recheck the VE,etc... to see if I did an error somewhere.
One thing,I haven't check if the TB got re-adjusted,The IAC were around 180-200 on a cold start (coolant temps at 40F). And 60-80 range at 190F.

I thought maybe if I would post the tune it.somebody might notice something.
Sorry,I don't have a log at this time.
