Thread: Are duel Widebands and WOT STFT’s possible on a Gen IV (E38)?

Are duel Widebands and WOT STFT’s possible on a Gen IV (E38)?

It would be nice to have on the fly WOT AFR correction. Is it possible to turn on STFT’s @ WOT assuming you have dual widebands installed in the factory locations? I noticed Innovative LC-1’s have analog outputs for the factory narrowband feeds. Has this been done before on a Gen IV? Here’s a thread from member soundengineer back in 2005, something similar http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-di...ml#post3899530

At bare minimum I want to part ways with my LM-1 and sample both banks simultaneously when open loop tuning VE, the FAST dual wideband system seems like the easiest fix since it has the capability of providing average readings for both banks. Is there a way to configure VCM Scanner to average 2 widebands assuming I went with a cheaper setup like dual LC-1’s or dual AEM inline standalones?

Any help, tips, suggestions, or leads would be greatly appreciated… Cheers!

exactly ... you can't read in PE mode because you only have narrowbands...

It would be nice if the fuel trims could compensate at WOT as well, to have that perfect AFR plot each time in all weather conditions would be nice....

Yes, and positive LTFTs carry into WOT.

What you're suggesting would require a custom operating system with significant reprogramming, and I sure as shit wouldn't want to rely on a sensor that can drift trying to control my WOT fueling.

So if I can't trust a wideband in each bank what can I trust?

I'm not saying you can't trust a wideband, but just leaving it in and assuming you can forget about it would be goofy.

If you tune it properly, you never have to worry about going back to change it. There'd be no real purpose. On top of that a wideband isn't going to give you the control ability that narrowbands might. If you want a 12.5, and the wideband shows a 12.49, it's going to take fuel out... but when it does, you'll be in a different operating condition. You don't want "trimming" while you're in a transient engine condition.

    Kool, thanks for the insight.

How hard would it be to connect dual widebands to HPT Pro and display average reading of both banks (just for tuning VE_? My Lm-1 is easy, only one sensor how do I average 2 sensors with VCM SCanner?

It would be very simple. Each individual wideband would consume one analog input, and then you make a custom PID that would look like:

    ([AUX.XXXXX]+[AUX.XXXXX])/2

[AUX.XXXXX] represents whatever identifier there is for each wideband PID.

Yes, I'm doing it with my G8. I have two LC-1s with a XD-16 gauge. The gauge will read Left side, right side, leanist A/F, richest A/F and average A/F.

DSteck's on the money about setting up a PID for averaging the two wideband readings. I use the average to tune by.

I just stick my wideband in bank 1 and tune off of that one, since bank 1 is the leanest bank 99% of the time (at least from what I've seen).

Lots of people are doing that and no argument from me about that method.

I install dual WBs just for peace of mind. That and the fact I was tossing a lot of money at my car at the time and an extra $200 or so dollars didn't seem like much of a price to pay for the extra amount of information.

How much disscrepancy have you guys seen between banks @ WOT?

If my part throttle STFT's only deviate about 1% from bank to bank should I expect to see about the same @ WOT?
