It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

Thats pretty sweet. They have a few decent "tuning" laptops on there I would consider. I am absolutely fed up with the battery life from my Sony Vaio.

Woot.com has the 9" refurb eeepc for $150 today.
Yeah but woots only has a linux os, the one I posted has xp(or at least the option of xp) making it a great laptop for tuning using our software.

Smart post guys! Love the price but can't stomach that screen size for tuning...
I use a 20.1" HP HDX Dragon laptop I picked up used for $875 on craigslist myself.

A buddy of mine just picked up the "Dell" version (slightly larger) for tuning and it's a fantastic machine. I'm going to seriously consider picking up a smaller machine for the car. They're so much less bulky.
Thanks for the link!

IT'S GOT TO HAVE PUSH RODS TO BE A REAL STREETROD
Look on ebay. Dell D600, D610, and D620s are coming off of contracts with corporations and start around $200 for a nice one. These have Windows XP Pro, good screen resolution, and a native serial port for older tuning tools. I've run each of these at work over the last five years. A fair price for a D600 is $150-200, D610 $200-250, and D620 $250-350. The D610 is definitely worth the bump in price compared with the D600. The D620 changes the whole form factor to a 14" widescreen.

If you pick up a D600 or D610, be sure to get one with the SXGA+ screen. That's a 14" screen with 1400x1050 resolution.
The D620 was available with a WSXGA or WXGA+ screen that has a resolution of 1440x900.

Don't buy Dells from ebay. A lot of the ebay vendors are doing nothing more than listing items from the Dell website. Go to the Dell website and look for the Factory Outlet link and search what they have.
Once in a while they have some serious hardware for good prices. We're not talking $150 laptop, but for $450 you can get a used M70 or M90 workstation with big power.
