is this interface compatible with 2.2? (pic)

Its been quite sometime since I have used HPTuners. I tried loading the software on my laptop but was only able to find my v1.3 cd and not the v1.7 that came with the serial interface. As a result i downloaded the newest version (2.2) from my customer account but can not get it to connect to the VCM for the life of me.

Does version 2.2 work with the serial type interface? (see attachment) If not....is there anyway to still get a copy of the software that is meant for it? I dont want to be forced to upgrade the interface just to occasionally scan the VCM and read codes.

Yes, however serial interfaces have interface specific software so you must be using the software download MEANT for that interface. The usb interfaces use a generic software download and their application key & interface contain the rest of their info.

How can I tell if I am using the one meant for my interface? I am logged into my acct on the hptuners site and the only option i have available is to "Download Current Build" i have tried this on 2 laptops...one which worked fine before but wont connect either.

Sounds like your software is the correct one, what year/make/model vehicle are you attempting to connect to? What error are you receiving? Have to checked to make sure your cig fuse is not blown?

Car is a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am. I am receiving the general "Interface was not found error"

I have checked the cig fuse and it is fine. My performance shop had no problems in tuning the car at their facility and the smog person was able to read from the OBDII port yesterday as well. All I really want to do is to check the not readys that showed in the smog since I put 100mi on the car yesterday and havent even thrown an SES light.

FYI: I have also mimic'd the USB settings shown in the help file without any change in the error.

Are you running direct to a serial port or using a usb adapter? If using a usb adapter which brand?

I am using USB to Serail adapters (2 diff ones)

Neither of them have a brand label on them...

The first is using an FTDI driver (this is the one that I purchased at the same time as HPTuners and has never had any problems connecting). This is the style that is approximately 2" long and directly converts USB to Serial.

The second adapter i am using is using a Prolific driver. I use this one for upgrading serial devices at work. It is a 4' cable that has USB on one side and serial connection on the other end.

BTW- Thank you for your speedy responses Bill.

Try using a keyspan usb to serial adapter to rule that out of the equation as this is the only one we recommend.

I ended up purchasing the Keyspan USA-19HS from CDW and recieved it today. After installing the drivers, restarting and then connecting the adapter I am still getting the same error message. Where do I go from here?

Bill - In writing my email and including screenshots I noticed something....

While the information under VCM suite info reads:
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Microsoft .NET: 2.0.50727.1433

VCM Suite Product: VCM Scanner 2.22.3043.1846
    VCM Suite ID: (omitted purposefully)

    Year/Models:
    GM Firebird/Camaro (V8) 2000

The Title bar of VCM Scanner reads: GM Firebird/Camaro (V8) 2002.....

Is this relevant to my problem or is it just a typo (hardcoded) into the program?
