    Smile 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

    I have a 2009 Silverado LTZ with a stock 5.3 LC9 (flexfuel) with the typical AFM/DOD setup and issues! I just swapped a freshly rebuilt 2007 6.0 LY6 into it. Only upgrade is the addtion of a BTR 2 V2 Truck Cam - specs 212/218 .553/.553 111+0.

I'v deleted/disabled the AFM/DOD and VVT. The truck starts, runs and initially was receiving a P0335 crankshaft position sensor error. I followed the crank relearn procedure and resolved the error. The truck will start and idle for awhile however once it warms up a bit, it dies. It'll start and idle once again with a little throttle help but dies once I put it into drive.

I'm just looking for a little advice to get it running and idling wihile I try to figure out the proper tune. I realize there many variables within the tune that will need to be addressed. I also realize this is probably a common question that folks inquire about all the time, so I'll apologize up front for the basic questions. I have searched through the tune repository, various forums, videos, etc and figured I'd reach out to the tuner community for a little guidance.

I would first find a stock tune for your 6.0 LY6 , can't help ya out their not enough experience . Trying to run a 6.0 on a 5.3 tune will not run very well their are to many variables to list . Look in the repository for a 6.0 an compare it to what you now have , sorry can't help ya out more . Do a search here their is a lot of info just have to read an read .

Appreciate the reply. Yes, that's exactly what I did. I've been reading and reading and reading! haha lots of good posts however a little difficult to sift through all of them. I found several LY6 6.0's from the respository by VIN (K). My understanding is the 07/08 years came with 30# injectors and the 09/10 came with 40#. I used an 08 file to baseline the Idle, Airflow, Fuel, Spark on my existing tune. It ran better however it still wants to stall after driving for awhile, so i still have issues to iron out. Here is the latest tune and log if interested.

Have you adjusted "Final Idle Airflow Minimum vs. RPM vs. Gear" any?

You need to be triple sure that your injector data is correct for what is actually in this engine, or everything from here on out will be all jacked up. If those are truly 30# injectors, I would shop for some new, larger OE flex fuel injectors, or aftermarket, if you think you are ever going to use E85 or power adders.

Here's a quick synopsis of the steps that will get it running with that combo.

    1. Go to Engine>Airflow>Dynamic tab and lower the High rpm disable/re-enable to 400/300 respectively.
    2. Go to Engine>Idle>RPM tables and Add 200 rpm to the four idle rpm tables.
    3. Go to Engine>Idle>Airflow tables and add 3.5 gms/sec to the Airflow Final Min table
    4. Go to Engine>Idle>Airflow and increase the startup airflow by 30%.
    5. Go to Engine Diag>Airflow tab and change Min ECT for P0101 to 256, and change Airflow Correlation RPM from 800 to 8000.
    6. Go to Engine Diag>Misfire tab and change Min misfire detection enable to 2500 rpm.

This will get you going and should have a decent idle at that point.
Let me know if you want me to get it dialed in 100% for you. I do quite a bit of remote tuning.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Yep I agree. I have a 2007 6.0 LY6 and the injector specs I find online are as follows:

    6.0 LY6
Year Part Number Flow @ 58 PSI Connector Length (Inches between O-rings)
    2007-2008 12580681 30 lbs. Uscar EV6 1.730 in.
    2009-2010 12587269 40 lbs. Uscar EV6 1.730 in.

The 12580681 part# matches the injectors I'm currently using...So I'm fairly certian the injector data should be accurate, however I'll double/triple check the data. I also have the injectors from the 5.3, which are flexfuel - part# 12594512 (36 lb./hr. @ 58 psi).

Thanks for the info Kevin, appreciate it. I'll try those udpates this evening once I get off work...I may take you up on the remote tuning as well. What is your typical rate for tuning?

    Thanks again,
    Tom
