Homebrew Interface for a 2004 Mustang

I'm working on a homebrew interface for my 2004 Mustang (including eventaully adding some sort of heads-up display). Can anyone suggest any good documents to read on the PWM protocol and the Ford messages. Also, does anyone have a schemtic for a PWM interface, other then using the Elm chip interface? The only homebrew OBDII interface I've found so far was for imports like VWs.

*Edit: I forgot to mention, even though some of the 2004 Fords have CAN, I'm going to be stuck with PWM.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Sometimes you can find the SAE Standards, like J1850 and J2178, floating around the internet.

Also, does anyone have a schemtic for a PWM interface, other then using the Elm chip interface?...
