I'm not on any Mustang sites so asking you guys about intakes

Hey fellas, I'm wondering if it is possible to install a 2018 5.0 Intake on a 2011 GT. I read the CJ intake won't fit without hood mod, will the 18 fit? Anyone done one? I just tuned an 11 this week and it falls on it's face at 7k. Tune was definitely worth the effort though, car seriously woke up! Owner is interested in doing a intake and would like to know if he's stuck with the Boss 302 to keep his hood or not. Maybe a suggestion from you guys that have been into these? Will the CJ really not fit under the hood of an 11?

I’ve seen plenty of cj’s under the 11-14 hoods. The 18 intake does work, cj would be the hands down winner if your looking for the most n/a power but it’s set up is the priceiest.

I got very similar results with GT350 mani vs CJ - just use it with a proper CAI as the CJ comes with a big'ol one already. Most would test GT350 with a small CAI and get lower numbers. CJ wins by 5-7 HP on top - that's all.

I know he's not somebody that's trying to squeeze every single ounce out of the car so I'd imagine the GT350 will be one he's going be very interested in. Save quite a few bucks and only 5hp loss compared to the CJ. Car is a manual so driving skill would have more effect than a 5hp loss, lol

Thanks for the input guys, at least I can tell him he does have options with it

The cobra jet intake fits 11-14 with no problem at all. The cobra jet is the best intake for a N/A build.
It depends on how much he wants to spend on parts.
    1. longtube headers
    2. JLT cold air intake or cold air intake with larger MAF housing. Cold air intake will be replaced if he decides to go with the cobra jet.
    3. Cobra jet set up or boss intake manifold.

The 18 manifold has stronger torque and similar HP than the boss. I've seen dyno sheets, not sure if I'm allowed to post the picture because it wasn't my work.
    11-14 - 425 HP 6500 RPM - 406 ft lbs 4200 RPM
    18 - 432 HP 6788 RPM - 395 ft lbs 4600 RPM
So the 11-14 peaked at 6500 and fell on it's face.
The 18 kept strong and by 7300 RPM, the 18 was 50 HP more, and 25 more ft lbs.
I haven't messed with or really seen much on the GT350 manifold.

I have run all of them on my car except the GT350 and the '18.

I bought one of the first CJ manifolds when it came out and ran it with multiple throttle bodies and CAIs. With the CJ oval and FRPP CAI, it matched my Boss with the Airaid CAI in times.

My best times have been with the Boss. 10.56. N/A, stock long block. I sold the CJ years ago and never bothered with it since. All of the 10 sec., stock long block N/A cars I tune run the Boss intake. The CJ just isn't worth the extra expense on a stock long block, gen 1 Coyote motor.

I would like to tinker with an '18 manifold. Too many other priorities currently.

finally some love for the boss, a ported boss is even better. I plan on running on eon my 16 once I can get this tuning down and feel comfy enough trying to play with the vct to make it run like it should since im a total newby to this.

I have to admit, if the GT was mine, it would be getting the Boss intake. The balance between style and function is right up my alley. I think the Boss 302 has a killer look to it. Yeah, I know, most want best performance possible but not me. I'd bust my balls getting the most I could from the Boss and I would definitely spend some time porting it before installing one. I just absolutely love the look of the Boss and would have a hard time going with anything else. lol

At the end of the day GT350 mani looks like stock and fits under the hood and strut tower brace.

    It'll work just fine on a 2011.

I installed one on my 2018 and wrote up a how to here https://forum.hptuners.com/showthrea...rocharged-2014
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

agreed the boss looks killer, once ported its output is close to a stock as cast cj and the price is way cheaper.
