    Stinking E40!

And Im not talking about the rapper. LOL.

I tuned a 2005 GTO over the weekend. Stock with bolt ons and a Maggie 112 blower. Runs GREAT except I couldnt get the car to go over 6000 RPM without slamming the limiter. Mind you, I set the limiters for 6600.

This car was previously tuned with a Diablo Trinity (from what I was told). So, to attempt to fix the rev limiter issue, I tried to do a write entire. Bricked! Mind you, the previous tuner tried to do the same thing and... BRICK! The owner of the GTO sent the ECM back to Diablo to get it reflashed. He tried to get the dealer to reflash the TCM once (it was flashed with Diablo) and they couldnt reflash it. Sent it to Diable and they were able to fix it.

Anywho... So, the E40 is bricked. Through my endless searching, I saw somewhere that 2.24 can somehow recover a bricked E40, versus using 3.4. Is there any truth to this? Is 2.24 safer on an E40 than 3.4?

Is it possible that Diablo has somehow done something to this ECM to prevent write entires? I want to upgrade to a 2 bar OS so that I can tune VE BUT that requires a write entire and Im not sure if I want to attempt that again at this point. The WOT AFRs are great and I have no KR at this point. Maybe 2.24 can do a safer write-entire?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    THANKS!

3.4 is definitely safer on E40's than 2.24.

There's several controllers have improved stability in 3.4, otherwise the rest are the same. No controllers have lost stability in 3.4

    OK.

Question... Is there any way to recover this E40? Seems Diablo is the only company that can fix this ECM. I read that disabling high speed mode may work.

    Opinion?

Just read his thread. It doesnt appear that he was bricked. This thing is bricked now. As far as a clean file, I do have the original file before I started tinkering but unfortunately, its the file that Diablo put on the ECM.

As a side note... When I say bricked, I mean the editor gets to the erasing point and times out. The check engine light doesnt come on at all. The vehicle will not start.

I would either use TIS2Web and flash a bone stock file into the ECM or find a known, clean, stock file in the repository and write entire that.

Mine has timed out several times in about the same spot. I don't unplug it, don't cycle the key or anything, I just click write again and it finishes. And that is not write entire--just write changes.
