Replaced ECM, runs with oem file, dies in 5 sec with HPT file

    Good evening all.

My 2004 GTO has been running great until recently, when after starting it, it began to die after 5 secs or as if the PIM and ECM were not linked.

The mods are in my sig.

Replaced the ECM, followed the linking process, and with a 2004 oem file, it started and ran, like crap, as long as you gave it gas.

Proceed to flash the HPTuners file corresponding to my mods. Start it and it goes back the same issue-runs for 5 secs and dies!!

I tried several versions of the file-
    1. Old HPT corresponding file, fail
    2. New oem file with segments swapped, fail
    3. New oem file with only Engine and Transmission segments swapped, fail
    4. All versions with and without VATS, fail.

    5. Apply an enhancement to oem file, success
    6. Run oem file by itself, success

Finally, I flashed the oem with the 1 BAR MAF enhancement just to have a running vehicle. It does run like crap since none of the parameters match the modifications done the engine. And, I am not driving it.

This is the latest. Anyone has ever encountered this?

Next effort will be to just change maybe VE and fueling, the minimal, to new oem file to see if it makes a difference.

    Thanks!

could it have something to do with anti theft? if the BCM doesn't have the same vin number as the ECU it might not work correctly. I know with F bodies the VATS will kill the car after something like 5 seconds if its not deleted. I am familiar with F bodies and LS1s. not so much with Goats or HP tuners, just starting out with that.. but thought id throw in my .02

    Thanks for the input.
I should have said I had the ECM programmed with my VIN.
Also, I did try with and without VATS. It is puzzling.

And yes, I have worked on conversions and by simply disabling vats, the vehicles start right up.

I am willing to bet you have operating system discrepancies. You say you are loading files that correspond to your mods, however you have a brand new factory flash. My recommendation is to tune your vehicle using the factory flash, which works, and you shouldn't have any issues

Hey Michael, thanks for your input.
I thought the same, that's why I did oem file with segments swapped, then I did oem file with only engine and transmission segments swapped. and, still this were fails.

Unless doing the segment swaps also brings the OS over?

I am actually thinking of just copy and paste the VE, injector info, and a couple of other stuff to test the OS question.

    Thanks man!

I had the same problem with doing a Cut and Paste swap over. My truck ECM died. After getting a new one I did a cut and paste differences swap. Truck ran in "Limp D**K mode". Had to re-Flash with stock OS, and then re-tune from scratch... No problem after that. These things can be touchy and a little tempermental...

For my own sanity, did you do segment swaps? as in importing the differences?
or did you do a compare file and copy and pasted just the tables?

    Again, thanks!!!

I did a complete Copy All Segments in one shot. It created a mirror image of my original tune file, from the VE and MAF tables down to the PE and Trans settings. Don't know if it has something to do with the difference in ECM serial numbers or what, because the NEW ECM was programmed with my VIN.. But I had to re-license the Vin to use the HP Tuner, costing me 2 more credits on my MPVI.. As soon as I started the upload onto the truck, an 06 Silverado... My dash display said Power Reduction Mode... After four attempts with the same results... I just scraped the tune and spent the day re-doing what I had already done.. VE and MAF in all three throttle zones... as well as trans and PE settings.. Thank god that was as far as I had gotten... So now I am back where I left off... Good luck though... Hope you have better luck than me...

Thanks for the detail response J! I appreciate it.

It sounds like that's what I am going to have to do. My car is heavily modified though, lol, so it will be a chore. This is going to take longer than expected, and has already taken it long sweet time. I wish there was something else. There's still hope. Thanks man!

Anyone have experience on the bold faced?

I copied all the tables onto an Excel spreadsheet and from there, i copied them on the oem file that works. Tested the unmodded file and the car started. Flashed the file with the tables copied from Excel. The car did the same thing, 5 secs died, no throttle response.

My next try will be by pasting special Text only the tables. I cannot see how the previous serial number is coming across when the data is going to Excel first. Anyone??

I am not near the vehicle. I am creating the files and having someone flash them for me. My vehicle is heavily modified; therefore, a lot tables have been changed.

    Thanks!

I sent an email to support. Hoping for the best. Being away from the vehicle certainly makes things difficult.
