Ford racing ECU coyote read and scan

This is an engine transplant in a 68 PU

We had it on the dyno trying to diagnose an engine noise, thought it was possibly spark knock.

When I read the tune, HPT told me there was no VIN, would I like to add one. I chose no, then it asked the ECU type? We chose Copperhead.
    It read the tune.

When I went to scan, it polled parameters and gave us a very limited set of pids to view. Very basic.

I'm wondering if with no VIN, it defaults to the basic set?

    Any help appreciated.

Yep it just defaults to a very few basic PID's. You have to choose the vin option, that's how the scanner knows what to log.

Thanks. When we revisit this, I'll enter the donor car VIN. Car was totaled.

The noise btw ended up to be something mechanical in the engine. Metal in the oil. So out it comes.

I haven't gone to tune my control pack PCM yet, car is going to be in paint here for a while unfortunately. I don't know if there is a criteria for what you can enter for a VIN or if HP Tuners generates one for you.

I think it generates one on the Control Pack ECUs.

EDIT: Link to the Announcement thread.

    Thanks for the Link Jamie.

It asked me if I wanted to add a vin, or if I wanted HPT to create one for me.
Or if I wanted to skip the step.
That's when it popped up a large list of ECU names to choose from.

Like I said, with no vin, I was able to read it.
