How do these work? Does it take the place of the interface? How are credits handled?

These are more similar to a SCT X4 than to the HPT interface. They can hold tunes, display gauges, clear/read DTCs. The nice part is the physical format it is in...round gauge vs large door opener style. Datalogging is much easier as it can hold multiple datalogs all at one time and multiple tunes as well...all on a mini SD card. Pop the card out and take it to your laptop and get your logs or add/remove tunes.

They fit really nice on a Ford dash.
Here is a GT500 and an S550 mounted.

The configuration options continue to evolve through firmware revisions.
It will natively monitor 13 signals as a gauge + datalog 23 other PIDS at the same time.
These save onto the on board micro SD card as .csv files.

It will upload the stock tune and hold at least 10 custom tunes.
It also supports mail order tuning. Your customer can use it to take a read, send you a stock file and then you send them back encrypted tuned files.

MPT recently launched it and did a great job presenting it on their website. http://www.morepowertuning.com/ngaug...-ecoboost-f150

Is the tune loading time similar to the amount of time using an interface?

How do you access the sd card when it's mounted in the car?

Does the device occupy the OBD2 port?

I have an nGauge, but haven't really been using it. Its on firmware v120, how do I know if this is the latest?

txcharlie, it plugs into the OBD and has a USD port in front so you can read the card while its in the gauge

I use the gauge for monitoring up to 6 PID's, but haven't really got into its full capability

Pretty sure I want one of these so I can data log at the track. Track won't allow me to to go down the strip with a laptop w/o a mount.

Lets see what Jim says. I haven't found a way to get scanner log configs into my nGauge, but would be great to know how to do this. I currently only use my nGauge to monitor PID's and store tunes. Would be nice to log as well though.

Lot of great info in the HP Tuner nGauge Facebook group as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nGauge/

A Spanish Oak and a Copperhead config file is posted there along with access to the latest versions (up to v175 now)

With the new 175 version you don't necessarily require a config file because you have a new concept called Favorites that allows you to select other PIDs aside from those selected on your gauges to also datalog.

Yeah, the only reason I'd buy it -- for the standalone logging, since it seems we'll never be able to do so with the interface that exists today.

As a dataloging device can it log Ford DMRs or is it limited to the OBDII PIDs?

It can log DMRs. There are several datalogging configuration files available on the nGauge Facebook page. Simply drop the config file into the correct folder and then select that config under the Datalogging menu. Simple touch-on/touch-off for the log.

There is a new firmware version V175 that enables the datalogging without the use of a config file as well.
