Cant hook up to a 2014 Impala Classic

2014 Impala Classic......has the 3.6 and 6spd auto. Gets to preparing VCM and fails. Only thing I can think of is maybe its 2015 electronics and not supported yet? Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks!

Try 2.25 beta. Send email to [email protected] and request access to the beta. Include your serial number also.

I use 2.24 on a 2012 Impala, which is the same car as the 2014 Limited (including same engine, trans and ECM/TCM). You should be able to use 2.24 with a 2014 Limited. I suspect that something else is wrong. Have you used the same laptop/HPTuner hardware on any other vehicles? Also, have you confirmed that the OBD-II port is working on the car?

Does the 2012 have the 6spd auto? This one has the 3.6 6spd auto. I've been tuning with 2.24 without any problems and been using the same laptop for about 4yrs now. Tuning is all its used for. He's coming back this morning so we can try the 2.25 on it. So far it's let me look at the bin files on here where the 2.24 wouldn't.

Yes, the 2012 Impala has the 6-speed. Seriously, it's the exact same car as the 2014 Limited.

Can you open the 2012 Impala stock files from the repository in 2.24 (my stock file is there as well)? I've been able to open all of the Impala tunes from the repository in 2.24.

Stupid question, but have you updated to a recent version of 2.24?

I'm curious to know if you can open my stock tune in your version of 2.24 (also, what version of 2.24 do you use?).

You should defintialy be able to tune a 2014 Impala Limited with 2.24.

I have the latest 2.24 (2.24.1170 iirc) and I just got done with this car and the 2.25 worked fine. The 2.24 would start the read then fail when it got to the validation part. Now that I think of it I had the door open last time. Not sure if that was the problem or not but this time I had it closed. I've been so used to tuning older stuff where that didn't matter and it never crossed my mind to close it lol. I don't get V6's hardly ever so I don't keep up with the changes in them so I just figured old body style with new OS and the 2.24 didn't support it.

I'll look for your 2012 file and see if 2.24 will work and go from there. Its been working fine on everything I've messed with up until this car.

I'm actually kind of curious to see the stock 2014 tune too, if you don't mind posting it in the repository. I just noticed that there was a 2013 there and was surpised to see some of the tune differences between the 2012 and 2013. Who knows, I might be able to bring some of the 2013/2014 tune improvements over to my 2012. I would think that they do make improvements over the years.

Please do let me know what you find out with 2.24 and my stock tune. I honestly don't know if leaving the door open while trying to read the tune makes any difference. I guess I could try it on mine and see if it works.

Not a big deal, but now I'm kind of curious.... I haven't made the switch to 2.25 just becuase a) it's still in beta and b) I just didn't have the need to. I do know that it's getting much closer to release now though.

I uploaded it. I don't think its been approved yet. The 2012 and the 2014 both use the E39 and T43 and I could open your tune in 2.24 but it wouldn't let me hook up in the car. I'm still curious if maybe the door being open was the problem or if there was some other trick to it? I've read in other forums people having to cycle the key between the pcm and tcm reads and some saying to turn the key to accessories instead of run to do the read. Both of those suggestions are new to me and I've never had to do either.

My interface recognizes the 2014 in 2.24 license slots but since I had to run and save it in beta I know I wont be able to open it in 2.24 and I tried just to verify that.

There was one problem I ran into with beta and my security on my computer. When I run beta I have to disable all security shields or I can't even open the program but when I use 2.24 I've never experienced that problem.

Thanks for uploading the 2014 tune - I'll keep an eye out for it to be approved.

When I read my 2012, I just put the car in On mode to read it and didn't have any isuses. But I did do it with the door closed, so maybe the door being open was the curplit... Next time you have the car, maybe try to read it with 2.24 again - your license should work in 2.24 if you read it with 2.24 (like you said, you can't open 2.25 reads in 2.24 though). At least they you could keep everything in 2.24 for now...

What do you mean by "security shields" with 2.25?

I have avast security on my computer. For some reason it doesn't want to allow the beta program to work while it's on. If I turn them off it will allow it to run. Of course when I downloaded the beta it came in as an unverified source which didn't make sense either and I'm sure that's why it's acting weird when I try to open the program. I prolly need to go in and set the program as safe or allowed or whatever so it'll recognize it and throw up a block on it.

So I finally got a copy of the 2014 Impala Limited tune and was kind of surprised to see so many differences between it and my 2012 tune. There are even quite a few differences between the 2013 and 2014 tunes (I honestly expected them all to be exactly the same).

Quite a few differences related to injectors. I also noticed that they reduced the timing during low RPM/low load situations (something that I had done previously to combat KR around the the 1200 RPM range while cruising). Even some differences related to KR parameters.

I'd appreciate it if someone could compare the 2012 Impala stock tune (one by Jim T. in the repository) and the 2014 Impala stock tune from the repository and tell me what they think of the changes.... I was REALLY surprised to see the slight change in the "Cylinder Volume" parameter!!! It's very minor, but it really makes me wonder why the changed it at all...

Thanks for the 2014 tune upload!

Was the 2014 tune the one I uploaded?

Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I've been busy with Christmas stuff and tuning a few vehicles. Plus my current project was backed in to by another person so I've been dealing with that also. When it rains it pours it seems.

Yes, it was your 2014 file. Thanks again for uploading it. I'm kinda curious what someone with a little more experience things of the differences betweeen the 2012/2013/2014 Impalas. They are the *exact* same car, some I'm wondering if it would be beneficial at all to apply some/all of the changes to my 2012 or if they are so minor that it's probably not even worth it...

You're very welcome. Always glad to help if possible.

I would just to see if anything beneficial would come from it. Like you I noticed the slight differences and wondered the same. I think I'd have to try and see. I'm curious like that sometimes.
