Question 2001 3.4 crankshaft gear fitment

I'm currently rebuilding a 2001 3.4 E code in an Impala. I'm installing the new timing chain set and noticed that the gear slides on the crank easy with hardly any resistance. I used a slide hammer to remove the original one. It fit tight on the crank. I called manufacturer at Engine Pro tech support and he said that all crank gears do not have to be a press fit. He said the harmonic balancer will come up tight against it and hold the gear tight. Has anyone else experienced this.
