0 to 5volt square wave tacho.

On an fg xr6t does anyone know if there is access to a 0 to 5volt square wave tacho signal.

    Thanks

No you need a tach driver to generate the signal.

Is anyone using a tacho driver to drive an aftermarket tacho and if so which one are you using.

Do you need 1 pulse per revolution? I know some aftermarket gauges have dividers for difference cylinders.

If so, one way I can think of is splice into the coil signal on number 1 & 6, feed them into a line driver chip (74AHCT125 or similar) and combine the outputs. That SHOULD provide you with a 5V square wave signal of one pulse per rev.

Please note, I have never done this and am just thinking out loud. I am also assuming the PCM runs sequential spark and not wasted COP. If running in wasted COP you would only require signal from one coil

EDIT: Coil driver is probably much easier, as hiddeous said. My thought process is purely based on using signals that already exist.

Timwds thanks for your response, basically what I am after is the ability to log knock on an FG as the tuning on my vehicle is finished with the exception of accurately knowing where the knock threashold is. It looks like the new scanner is a long way off, and even then I have asked on the forum if it will log knock with no answer.

What I have done in the past is use the highly developed knock sensing ability of a Delco PCM to log map rpm and knock on other cars (using a GM knock sensor given cylinder size for the knock sensor frequency) and want to do this with the FG however there is no suitable RPM signal.

    Just use this,
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/3711...pid=107&chn=ps

I installed one on a mates BA a few weeks back to drive the rpm readout on the eboost - 5v square wave input.

If you dont have control of the sensor it will show phantom knock all over the place

But the scanner is two weeks away so just hold on.......

The Delco system has had millions spent on its development no aftermarket system comes close!
Two weeks! hmm I think your last prediction maybe more accurate!

They look similar to the Autometer one Luke, I used one of those to run RPM input into the Eboost, works wicked
