    2003 Silverado 4.8 to 6.0 Swap

Extreme newbie.. so bare with me please, lol. I am taking a 4.8 from my personal 2003 silverado and dropping in a 6.0. For starters, can I just dump a stock 6.0 tune onto the 4.8 PCM, then tune from there (scan, etc)? I am keeping the 4l 60 trans so I know i will have to keep that in the PCM too. OR would it be better just to swap engines, then scan/log and tune from that point? Truck is BONE stock..exhaust, intake, everything and so is the 6.0 engine. I am also using the 4.8 intake/injectors on the 6.0 unless there is a reason I need to use the 6.0 injectors. ANY help is appreciated!!

    hey Eric,
I did a 5.3 to a cam, stalled 6.0 lq9 swap 2001 silverado and my 5.3 pcm would run the 6.0 engine. just had stalling problems etc.... from the cam change.
this was @ going on 2yrs ago. early last year I got a nelson mail tune but I kept my 5.3pcm.

I would think you would fine upgrading your 4.8 to a 6.0 and running the same sensors and injectors.
And that's why im here I am also looking for a 6.0 tune file to flash to my 5.3pcm

    hope I helped.......lol

I'd use the 60 injectors...they should be larger.

I'd grab a 6.0 LQ4 tune from the same year as your engine, open your 4.8 tune as a compare, and then just copy over the differences in the engine related portions of the tune...then work from there. Injector data, spark tables, MAF/VE...

You'll probably want to change shift points too, but you should not just directly copy those...the 6.0 in the 1/2 ton with a 60E will need different tables than the 6.0 in the 3/4 ton or heavier with the 80E.

Thanks guys!! What about the stock single exhaust? Will it handle the flow of the 6.0.. I think it is 2 3/4 diameter..but single.

Well, I have completed the swap, and the difference is night and day. I used intake from 5.3 and all sensors from the 6.0 were the same as the 5.3 as well. The engine runs really strong with the stock 4.8 tune, however I know there is more to be gained. If anyone has any questions regarding this swap and if I can help, just ask.

Just be careful with the ETC tables. I've bricked a couple PCM's swapping 6.0 ETC parameters into a 5.3 tune by simply copying the stock parameters from the 6.0 to the 5.3 tune. This was on a 2004 model however. Normally I leave the ETC tables as is.
