2010 camaro...no ECT or Oil Temp? wires and sensors are good...

    Long story short...
we have a customer who got screwed over by another shop...
guy brought it to us to fix the other shops bad job.
    car runs like crap...

the car originally went in for a swap from the stock Auto trans to a TH400
they pulled out the TCM and wrote a manual file to the ECM
I cannot see ECT in the scanner...and it reads incorrectly on the Dash
heat gun says its 200* at the sensor on the head...dash says 125*, scanner says -40*
tested wires....tested sensor(even replaced the ECT to be sure)
sensor reads just fine with an Ohm Meter, wires test just fine all the way back to the ECU

so I thought maybe they have something really screwed up with the file and it just needs a clean new file
it has similar mods to several other cars we have done here, so I thought I would atleast start with a file that is close from a known good working car..
for now...I just wrote it back to an Auto ECU File, just disabled the stuff the auto stuff in the tune

Still cannot read ECT in the scanner and the car doesnt see it either

tried both an Auto ECU file and a Manual ECU File, same result on both

wondering if anybody has any ideas.
we cannot see ECT or Oil Temp

Strange since each time I've personally seen -40° engine coolant there was a damaged or disconnected wire.

One thing I had recently with an E38 / T42 was a pin got pulled slightly out of one of the connectors when the harness was getting re-pinned. This would intermittently stop reading (with vibration or bumps) making the issue difficult to trace. I tested all the relevant wires and they all checked out good. With nothing else to try, I got to the point where I went pin to pin physically, electronically and visually checking the wiring and I happened across a pin that wasn't seated properly. I pulled the lock for the pins, re-seated the affected pin and re-installed the lock checking to ensure I didn't make another mistake.

I already did a pin check... but I'll double check again tomorrow morning

the biggest issue is that the guy has no idea what the other shop did, has no idea about the parts they put in or on the car, and has no paperwork for us to be able to figure it out.....

and again... it reads on the Dash....it just reads wrong...
and the scanner (or any scan tool) reads -40

also, I can only see the Dash ECT if I disable the DTC's for the ECT...(set them to no error reported)

A wire that's making contact with something else will still show continuity.

Run completely new wires as a test.

that wouldnt explain why I have signal at the Dash but not in the scanner....
if there is a short in the wire I would see the problem at the dash as well since it is commanded by the ECU.

The scanner PID is not the same as what's reported to the cluster. The ECM defaults to -40 when it knows something is wrong last I checked. A short in the wire will skew resistance and throw it off. Running new wires is the easy check, and is where you should start.
