WOT Lockup with Yank SS 3600 in A6?

I've gone back and forth on this subject for awhile and most tuners tell me to never lockup the converter at WOT, but people at meets or car clubs tell me why wouldn't I want to lockup in 4th to have 1 to 1 with the trans?

I currently make about 417 in a G8 GT with a cam (no DoD), Yank SS 3600, and a 3.91 rear end. So if I let the HPT just auto adjust everything it would be locking in forth at around 79mph.

Currently I've disabled all WOT lockup and just want to be sure it won't hurt my traps.

Check with Dave from Yank, but I'm almost positive he's going to tell you NOT to lock that single disc SS 'verter.
There's no way I could have locked mine in in 2011SS that made 430ish to the tires. I don't believe the clutch had enough meat.

A few months I did and he referred me to a tuner he knows who also confirmed to not lockup at WOT. I just wanted to get input from others as recently some friends in a car club asked why I didn't lock. It seemed obvious to me as I said "I don't wanna burn up the clutch."

Their response was running a slower ET at the track.

You don't want to lock a Yank converter at WOT. Actually, they won't even stay locked if you try. I would assume you already know to increase the apply pressure, and zero the slip.

You'd better be able to lock a triple, otherwise why have it?

Thanks guys. Still learning on this stuff. Do you you disable the lock up in 1-3, and then lock it up in 4-6?

I was only locking mine in 5th and 6th, and even then only under 25% throttle. It's also set to unlock pretty quickly.
My last file is attached. Worked pretty good for me, and for a few other single discs I've done.

I only lock part throttle 4th gear and above....close to how stock tune would.

Ed, max TCC pressure is 138 but I'm not sure if I zero'ed all the proper slip tables.

Its under Auto TCC > TCC Desired Slip then zero out each gear's table correct?

You got it. And the apply ramp is increased, which it should be.

You can probably feel a good "thud" when it applies. And you shouldn't be able to make it slip by applying throttle pressure.

I used Bluecats program and made adjustments to mine. Let me know what you think (2800 triple disc, TVS1900). Thanks,

    Rob

Locking a convertor while you are already WOT is hard on the clutches. The tripple disc lockups are made for this though. On the flip side while dynoing depending on the power level of the setup I normally lock them to do pulls. Reason being is once they are locked they will hold a good bit of power but the locking is being done prior to loading the trans so the clutch doesn't have to lock with all that power applied.

Every single disc Yank I ever done I can't keep locked. At least with any bit of power. Say, 500+ on a DJ. I don't even try any more. And I think their A6 converters are the worst. At least for not staying locked.

I agree which is why I said depending on the power level. About the most I've been able to hold without slip is around the 375-400whp level on cam only LS1 stuff. Don't care for their lockup clutches compared to others.
