I know that with my 4.6 it always does a Write Entire, where my friends GTO you can do a Write Calibration Only. Fords or the spanish oak computer must just not be able to take a flash this way.

I'm speculating here, but I think the key cycle is due to HP Tuners needing to catch the computer during boot up in order to be able to write to it. It could be designed like this by ford or it could be HP Tuners exploiting something in the boot up process.

The key cycle is unique to Ford because the ECU requires 18V to be applied to initiate the FLASH routine.

Also, Ford OS are not broken up into segments like GM's so you cant just pick and choose portions to write. Write times are very much dictated by the ECU architecture, not so much by the software.

As stated above, its just the nature of how Ford handles things. The newer Ford PCMs do not require the key cycle, but they are still doing a full flash. Technically we probably could do a cal only flash, but then the checksum would not be correct.

will this also cause logging to be slow and glitchy? when i log its not a smooth continuous, it records in very short intervals. maybe a different problem?

Different issue. Generic and Mode 22 PIDs on a Ford just logs slow. When the new scanner is released, it will support a different method of logging which is extremely fast.

Any update on this one Eric?

And on a side note. We tried the latest version of HP tuners software on my 06 F-150 and it loads 1 min faster
Down to 3:30 for a write now!
