Need help. frist time posting. idle problems.

My friend has an 87 Chevy with an 03 5.3 and 4l60 in the truck. The engine has a gm hot cam in it. The trans has a stock stall in it. When he goes from drive to reverse the truck almost stalls out. The guy that tuned the truck says that he has to have a stall to make it right. I have read on forums where people use this cam with the factory stall. Can this problem be fixed with the tune or does he need a stall?

Thank you mecanicman!!! I have been out of town the last couple of days. Sorry for the delay in responding. I will try in new tune in his truck in the couple of days and let you know what happens.
