Have a weird issue... '14 GT, was originally on SCT, flashing fine... then started failing repeatedly today (would fail to flash), tried like 8 times... restore to stock, then reflash. Restore to stock always takes, writing custom tune would fail. WTF. Finally got fed up and unmarried the SCT device.

Took like an hour or so to move my calibration over to HPT using the beta... go outside, flash car, no problem, takes the tune. Drive it around, seems some of the fuel strategies are missing compared to SCT as idle is now like at a -30% fuel trim and cold warm up was really hesitant (car is on 60# injectors & E85), didn't have this issue with the SCT map (mostly 1:1 copy as the tables are identical). Figured w/e, car ran fine warmed up. So start doing some fuel tweaks to idle (transient and maf curve). I was able to flash the car 2-3 more times... then go to flash again... progress gets to 74.2%, pauses (which it would pause intermittently at 74.2% or so every time), but this time it just blasts straight to 100%, during the pause the HPT device was showing the LED go off for a bit, then back on... so some kind of communication error? In any case, no go, car doesn't start anymore. Weird. Tried a few more flashes with HPT... each one fails. At the same 74.2% marker.

Ugh... guess I'll try flashing the unmodified HPT map I pulled off the ecu later.

Sounds like there may be an issue here with the car. At ~74%, that is where the calibration write starts.

I let the car sit for 15 minutes and now it's taking flashes just fine again.

    WTF.

What issues? The car just has cai/offroad hpipe/exhaust. Quite literally haven't touched anything electrical on the car.

But you have programming issues with SCT and our hardware... ?

I think it's more an SCT device issue than anything else -- I'm still able to write with your hardware, just took a quick 10-15 minute break and the car flashes again. Flashed it a couple more times since too. Where as the SCT device absolutely fails (after wasting 15 minutes of my life going through the upload stock tune, download custom tune back and forth). It would be interesting to know what error the VCM device was encountering at 74% that it couldn't write.... the SCT devices at least give me some error codes so we can do troubleshooting....

Too bad there is no useful datalogging with VCM yet... ugh.

If it fails, find the debug.dat file (My Documents/HP Tuners/Settings) and email it into support along with all the details. This file will give us some insight as to the reason it is failing there.

    The logging is coming along!

I have been using SCT for a long time now, and i have ran into the same issue you are running into now.

to fix your SCT issue delete the code your working with and reupdate your advatange to load the code up again. and start with fresh file and it will flash.

if you have none stock injectors converting to HPT is kind of opposite. you do know that the stock injectors are more than enough for E85 and the parts you got

I suspected maybe a calibration corruption issue, so this must be it then?

What do you mean? HPT has perfectly working injector support... And yes, I know the stocks work fine with minor mods, car isn't staying that way forever and I wanted to play with the injector tuning before going nuts with the car.

Is your battery voltage above 12.4V ? Fords have trouble flashing with low battery voltage, using a battery tender or a new battery solves this issue

The car is a '14 with 3k miles. Sits around 11.8-12.0 w/ key on. Highly doubt the battery is bad... lol. Considering HPT flashes just fine....

I deleted the whole Ford database and updated. No luck, pretty sure the device is just a pile.

Attach a jump back with a steady state supply function and try. We have heaps of issues in Australia with Xcal's not working due to low battery voltage, even though the car will work fine. I believe the Xcal units are actually 18V or something similar and step the battery voltage up internally. The hp dongle used to be sensitive also, but now for whatever reason I never have as many problems flashing as what we did with SCT. Even if you doubt the battery voltage is the cause, it is worth the 10secs to eliminate it as a variable prior to paying another $500-$600 dollars for a new flash tuner.

Had my battery charger on it during initial troubleshooting. Not really worried about it now that I have it running fairly well with HPT. SCT's support blows dick, I keep emailing the dealer support and just silence, so I've washed my hands of them on this car. I can't stand that bullshit.

That's a question for Keith. Shouldn't be too long though.
