keep your .cfg PID count to 24 or less. The counter is bottom left in the chart display -- ECM (tbl).

also before I get too deep in this should I start with a stock tune, or try to fix this one that the tuner did?
You can stay with this one, it is mostly stock anyways. It has your correct Injector values as well. Will going open loop as well once you start tuning process. How are you doing with the process for tuning from your Tuning School documentation?

well the documents say it can only tuned be with the maf. so not sure where to start now
I assume that the blue cat tunes the virtual ve but im not sure where to start and where to go after that
??? really. Would be interested why and how they state that. As this is a nice car and you probably drive it a lot. I first would recommend tuning using the MAF/VE combined up to 4000 RPM and then MAF only. The documents should provide you with a step by step procedure for tuning the MAF first. High RPM Enable and disable would be set to 400 and 390 respectively. It should also tell you how to set the tune to open loop. It should tell you what PIDs and Histograms you will need (similar to what I did yesterday). Once you get the MAF tuned, you will go to the VE and just get it settled in up to 4000RPM. Again the documents should instruct you haow to fail the MAF, set the P0101-3 DTC's etc. to tune the VE with the Bluecat Tool.
No disrespect, but you really need to understand the basics of the tuning processor else it will take us weeks to get you there. While you are waiting for Wednesday, read the documents, read the HELP files, search the Forum (some great tutorials exist) etc. and ask questions relative to the process.
Have a good night.

well that's why I spent $400 for 2 books that now tell me " HP tuners is working on software for virtual ve."
thanks for the help though. I'll see what I can figure out
yes, tune MAf and Ve as per MOWTON's advice that is what i had to do to get the truck to level out on AFR (still working on it, tune MAf then VE and back to MAF and so on, lilltle changes each time) hope all goes good and smooth.
Using the BlueCat Tuning tool is not all that bad. Your other alternative is to use one of the HPTuners custom OS's which have a conventional VE table, Boost timing and PE etc. unfortunately that will cost you another set of licenses. The Books should provide all the information you need I would think. As they seem to reference the fact HPTuners doesn't have VVE tuning capabilities, do they go into BlueCat software availability and capabilities? Again, you can follow their process just substituting the BlueCatt process when it tells you to take the logged AFR error percentages and Mult % the VE table values to apply correction.well that's why I spent $400 for 2 books that now tell me " HP tuners is working on software for virtual ve."
I hope you didn't take this advice wrong (sometimes I am not politically correct). My only point is you really need to have an understanding of the process, tables and application before you start to gain the most from the Forum communication approach. Will help in any way I can.

Great tutorial Ed! I'm jumping on board. I wish I could have found something like this 4 months ago. I feel like I've been running through 2 feet of mud trying to understand all of this, LOL. I'm getting close on my tune, but have had many setbacks (I retrofitted and LS3/6L80/TVS1900 in a 68 C10...). Thanks again for trying to help us newbies out!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I found this thread from BlueCat that has a lot of good information on the tuning process:

anyone know where the Primary VE vs RPM vs MAP is for a histogram, or is it called something else?
Jon, we went through this before, there is no primary VE in the 2006 and up models. Its virtual VE (coefficients) and is equation based. You generated the table starting in post 51 from the BlueCat software and copied over the MAP and RPM for the Row and Column axis values. Your AFR err PID is the data that goes into the General & Plot location. remember?

I see you picked pids to your VE histogram you don't need to use these use the sensor for accuracy. these pids are (SAE) which is the lower resolution. you always want to pick the non SAE version for high resolution.
