Does the PCM need to know the correct VSS?

I know this may sound stupid but ive searched with no answers. So more specifically: im doing a LS6 engine swap into Porsche 944. Im using a 01 camaro PCM. I dont need VSS signal for my speedo, ABS, cruise, or trans(5 speed manual)
I believe that the PCM still needs to know VSS signal for idle, fan control and such...right? But does the PCM need to know EXACTLY how fast im going? Or just that the car is moving?
I wanted to use my ABS wheel speed sensor for/as the VSS input. Its a 45 tooth reluctor ring so i assume HPT should be able recal the signal that the PCM wants to see right?
    Thanks!

Just that the car is moving will suffice. You can tweak the speedo reading if you want it to reflect accurately.
