Ford injector data to GM format conversion spreadsheet

I've been holding out on this for a while, but figured it's time to just let it out there. I've only mapped a few sets already, but left the green fields editable so that anybody can take any set of Ford data and enter it in to convert it to GM format. I actually had to delete a few sheets of pre-mapped injectors due to file size limits on the forum.

The methodology is fairly simple behind all of it. Beyond knowing how the two formats relate (and the algebra behind the conversion from Ford to GM format), I used linear regression to map the relationship according to the various GM table break points. For flow rate, I actually use power regression because it generates a much better fitting curve (I also generate coefficients for the relationship because Bernoulli's simplified square root formula just doesn't line up right).

I think I hit all the major table formats. If the one you need isn't listed, pound sand, because I'm not editing it. Lol.

Note: You will notice that data above and below certain voltages in the offset table may look goofy. When looking at the visual representation of the offset table, the data will actually curl up in the higher voltages. This is because the generated data is not extrapolated according to a typical trend, but rather follows the coefficients generated for the voltages from 6v to 15v.

Your a stud. Looks good. I was just diving into your informative posts about this stuff earlier today and this is much appreciated.

Community doesn't mean everything is free - it was nice of Dave to post the spreadsheet at all - he was under no obligation to do so. These types of comments / interactions are what drive professional tuners from these Forums.

It's an imperfect way to get data. Raw data gets dumped into one format (accuracy dump #1), then converted from that to another format (accuracy dump #2). I choose not to share the algebra behind the conversion because a) it took me a long time to figure out and b) I'm not willing to allow something I worked hard on to get copied considering I've been bitten on that repeatedly.

People can use it and trust that I'm well versed on the subject matter, or figure it out themselves and cast doubt. I don't care.

Marcin, you tried that back in 2009 when I released my data, remember? Anyone who's handy at math is more than welcome to build their own conversion tool if you don't like what you get from either Dave or me.

Dave, I completely empathize on the whole "aw man, you gotta just give it to us" thing. I understand what kind of time goes into getting this right too. My time is not without value either. Don't feel bad about not giving in.

Everyone else, I'm not the least bit offended that Dave released this. Congrats to him for making a useful tool, and anyone who uses owes him one if it works for them. Remember that plugging in raw injector data is only one of the preliminary steps to putting together a good vehicle calibration. It's a critical step though, and those who skip it almost always end up having unexplained issues later when they try to do things like "fix driveability".

Dave, thank you for taking the time to create this, and for sharing it with us.

    Oh, I don't. Lol.

I want to make sure everyone realizes that this is an approximation based off of some other data set. Granted, it is an approximation that is the result of a pretty close algorithm, but still imperfect. It will not ensure that your tune is perfect, and it will not compensate for poorly matched injectors. It also isn't intended to compete with Greg or anything he's done. This was actually the product of a "Well, I'm curious how it's done... I want to figure it out" session. I pretty much exclusively use Injector Dynamics stuff these days, so my need for this has dwindled. I also wanted something that immediately spit out the formats I needed, as I didn't have the patience to refit data from Greg's form. Having said that, I didn't want to see this fall by the wayside and would rather see other people get something out of it. If you don't like the fact that the background works are hidden, then I don't know what to tell you.

For those that get something out of it and have responded (and those that will respond), you're welcome. I wish I could have attached the version with a bunch of other sets already done, but oh well. If somebody readily has links to the Ford data sets, it'd be nice to post those for others.

17 views so far with the Excel.

It will be interesting to see how many times it will be viewed.

    Thanks Dave.

Why not post the whole file with no deletions on a free file hosting site and then just link to it?

    Seriously.

Maybe they don't realize that the sheet "generates" the converted values. Its not just a sheet of values. If you can't spend a couple of minutes filling in some numbers, you may have other issues.

    My opinion.

No I haven't even looked at it. My version of Excel won't open a .xlsx file. Sorry if I offended the high and mighty DSteck.

Microsoft has a free plug-in file converter that will allow you to open those with older versions.

Dave I commended you in the other thread but after reading this I'm sorry for what you have to put up with. I've paid GB for his work and use some of the great tools you have produced, my favorite being your MAF smoother. I think we need to set up an honor system where if you use the tools to tune a customers car you give like $1-5 for each tool you use on each car. I have your Paypal and you'll start getting a few bucks from me each time I tune and use yours along with bluecat's tools. If everyone started this it maybe worth your time to leak out more stuff.

Seriously I wish everyone would realize what a great resource this is and how much you've contributed with your spreadsheets. Don't mind the multiple small amounts you'll get from me.

Thanks for sharing Dave. Havnt tried it yet but I am sure it will come in handy some where down the line.
